50 Things To Do Over Winter Break
House Call MD

This winter break, I decided to spend the month of January working at my on-campus job. I'm happy to be here because I love being at school and I only work in the summers at my job at home. However, sitting at an information desk at an empty student union is extremely boring. It’s especially boring when my coworker is being hella productive and not entertaining me. I’m sure I’m not the only student feeling this way over winter break. That being said, I’ve compiled a list of 50 things one can do to keep from dying of boredom.

1. Exercise

New year, new me, right?

2. Netflix Binge

3. Finally Sleep In

Because you literally have no school work to do and little responsibilities.

4. Learn to Cook

5. Apply to Graduate School

That's what I'll be doing

6. Spend Time with Family

7. Bake

8. Read a Book

I personally have about ten books that I've been planning to read for like 2 years now.

9. Play in the Snow

10. Hang Out With High School Friends

Unless you lost touch with them.

Instead, you can...

11. ...Visit Your College Friends

12. Search for Jobs

Since graduation is right around the corner.

13. Bar Hopping and Pub Crawls

14. Clean Out Your Closet

15. Shop For New Clothes Since You Just Threw Out Old Ones

16. Work

Even if it is boring.

17. Take a Road Trip

18. See a Broadway Show

They're pretty legit.

19. Plan Spring Break

20. Pick Up a New Hobby

21. Go to a Concert

And if you're not into concerts...

22. Go to a Museum

23. Have a Spa Day

24. Watch All the Movies That you Didn't Have Time to Watch

So many new ones just came out!

25. Play Board Games

26. Snapchat... a lot

27. Organize Your Planner

28. Take a Bubble Bath

29. Go Ice Skating

But, be careful.

30. Visit a Theme Park

31. Search for Housing for the Next School Year

Because we all know that is impossible to find in West Chester.

32. Travel

Then...

33. ...Make a Scrapbook of your Travels

Or not...

34. Volunteer

But, not as tribute. Maybe at a soup kitchen.

35. Update your résumé

36. Go Wine Tasting

I went with my parents and their 30 year-old friends!! #lit

37. Craft

38. Learn a New Instrument

No Patrick, mayonnaise is not an instrument.

Or you can...

39. ...Brush Up on One You Haven't Played in a while

So you can learn tricks like this.

40. Get Experience by Interning Somewhere

41. Throw a Party

42. Redecorate your Room

43. Clean

44. Finally Print Those Pictures From Last Year

45. Journal

46. Go Skiing or Snowboarding or Tubing

47. Learn to Knit

48. Go Bowling

49. Babysit

50. Make a Countdown For When Break End

Because I know I'm not the only one extremely bored this break.

You're welcome.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
