50 Simple Activities For The Next Time You're Not Studying

If you're anything like me then all you can do when you're studying is think of all the things you'd rather be doing. Then when you finally have a spare moment, you forget all of the things you wanted to do in the first place.

50 Simple Activities For The Next Time You're Not Studying

It's the end of the semester but it feels like the work just won't stop. If you're anything like me then all you can do when you're studying is think of all the things you'd rather be doing, but then when you finally have a spare moment to breathe you can't remember any of the things you wanted to do in the first place. So, during my last study session I decided to write down the first oh...50 or so of the simplest-to-carry-out ideas that popped into my head. Now, when it's winter break I really have no excuse for not knowing what to do.

1. Bowling.

2. Laser tagging.

3. Paint balling.

4. Going to a movie theatre to see a black and white, indie, or foreign film.

5. Seeing a local band play a concert.

6. Making a scarecrow.

7. Feeding birds.

8. Planting a tree.

9. Going on a bike ride.

10. Finding the best thrift store art.

11. Reading a book in a cozy spot.

12. Listening to an album on vinyl.

13. Finger painting.

14. Having a picnic.

15. Building a giant blanket fort with paper cup telephones. (I'll have my picnic in here if it's too cold outside.)

16. Hiking on a nearby trail.

17. Checking out a park I've never been to.

18. Making up a recipe.

19. Getting in my car and driving until I see something cool and stopping to explore it.

20. Getting in my car at midnight (or later) and driving until I find somewhere cool to look at the stars (or watch the sunrise).

21. Playing charades.

22. Singing songs and telling stories around a bonfire.

23. Going to the library or a bookstore and looking for poetry and pop-up books.

24. Going to a coffee shop I've never been to.

25. Dancing in the rain (or snow) and catching raindrops (or snowflakes) on my tongue.

26. Carving a pumpkin (or watermelon). (I know Halloween is over but I'm not (ever) over it.)

27. Rolling down a hill. (Or sledding).

28. Ice skating.

29. Learning how to ski or snowboard.

30. Building a sand castle on a beach. (Yes. Beaches still exist, even when it's chilly.)

31. Finding God in the clouds.

32. Having a PJ and dance party.

33. Picking up trash on the side of the road.

34. Fishing. (Without a hook on the line.)

35. Watching all the Star Wars movies in order.

37. Some kind of boating, whatever it may be.

38. Going to less heard of museums and historical sites.

39. Writing a letter.

40. Creating something cool with chalk.

41. Playing at Chuck-E-Cheese.

42. Volunteering at a soup kitchen.

43. Going to city council meeting to listen in.

44. Going swimming. (At an indoor pool.)

45. Camping in my backyard.

46. Finding pretty flowers and leaves to press and make a book with.

47. Baking cookies or pies.

48. Climbing a tree.

49. Flying a kite.

50. Spending an entire day doing random acts of kindness.

I have sufficiently wasted my study time but with this nifty list hopefully neither of us will be wasting our free time. It's often the simplest things that we forget we can do and those are the things that, many times, bring the most joy.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
