Tis the season of the oh so handsome Mr. Grey.
As most everyone knows the second movie of the Fifty Shades Trilogy came out a couple weeks ago, and just as the first one was released back in 2015, all the hype about it was back once again.
"It promotes violence"
"If he was some poor man living in a trailer park it would be a crime show."
"I don't see how anyone claiming to be a Christian can watch this."
Blah, blah, blah.
While this series is a much different love story than what most Hollywood scenes are, it is just that. A love story.
Here are a few points I would just like to make about Fifty Shades, and the statements above.
This movie absolutely DOES NOT promote violence. There is a very distinct line between the two. They may do things that not everyone is used to or that not everyone would be comfortable doing but it does not mean it is violent. Ana steps out of her comfort zone and tries many different things with Christian, and if she isn't okay with something then they don't do it. He never once forces her to do anything. But come on, everyone at least once in their life has to step out of their comfort zone and do something that they normally would not do. Maybe not to quite the extent as Ana does, but it really is no different.
NO, if he was not some billionaire and was some poor guy living in a trailer park or anywhere else it still would not change a thing. Where's the crime? Because I for one don't see it. Nothing that Christian Grey does is illegal. Different, but perfectly legal.
Watching these movies and reading these books does not affect my relationship with God or the church. It is not a sin to like 50 Shades. I personally love the whole story. It has never once made me want to turn my back on God or leave the church. What you watch on tv, or the kind of music you listen to, or the types of books you read cannot ruin your relationship with God, and if it does then you have a bigger problem.
So, it is PERFECTLY OKAY to love the Fifty Shades Trilogy. It does not mean you are a bad person if you do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it nor is it any different or "dirtier" than anything else that is on tv. We all have our own interests, Christian's just happens to be very odd and different, BUT it is JUST A MOVIE and while I'm sure that sort of thing is a reality for some, that is absolutely their business and no ones place to judge.
