James Madison University is a school like none other. With college acceptances starting to come out, here are 50 reasons why you should come to JMU:

  1. Our business school is ranked number 5 on the East Coast.
  2. The Dog Pound is a late-night craving walk-up window - nachos, cookies and milk, and hot dogs, Oh My!
  3. Study Abroad! JMU has multiple study abroad opportunities from over the summer and over a semester.
  4. UREC. C’mon, it is the biggest gym on the East Coast and it will make the laziest person want to workout.
  5. JMU is the only campus in the U.S. with a Starbucks truck.
  6. Nothing beats a JMU sunset.
  7. You never feel unsafe on campus.
  8. Grafton-Stovall theater plays recent movies every weekend for only $3.
  9. Everybody holds doors for everybody.
  10. The professors love to teach and a lot of them actually went to JMU!
  11. While the train can be annoying, everybody looks forward to seeing the train during their first semester at JMU.
  12. Downtown Harrisonburg is an awesome place to go with tons of restaurants.
  13. FROG Week is one of the best experiences of your JMU career, and make sure to go to all the events!
  14. JMU’s food is ranked 9th in America.
  15. Kline’s Ice Cream is a go-to for college students.
  16. The Marching Royal Dukes have appeared in the Macy’s Day Parade and marched in Vatican City.
  17. Greek Life is huge at JMU and everybody who is involved is proud to wear their letters.
  18. JMU gives you the Southern school appeal without going too far South.
  19. E-Hall Brunch. Enough said.
  20. JMU has food trucks that are off of the Quad, and are perfect for a quick snack.
  21. Free t-shirts! By the end of your freshmen year, you will have 20+ t-shirts and all of them you will have gotten for free.
  22. The JMU community is amazing and everyone loves JMU.
  23. Cookout. Jimmy Johns, Krispy Kreme - JMU has some of the best places for late night cravings.
  24. Not to mention, Campus Cookies!
  25. JMU Starbucks does 12 Days of Giveaways during Finals week.
  26. SSC is home to study areas, tutors, amazing food, and relaxation rooms.
  27. Late Night Breakfast pops up a couple times each semester, where students can go and eat breakfast for free.
  28. Streamers!!! A beloved tradition of every JMU football game.
  29. Mike Huston. You live as a celebrity, here at JMU.
  30. JMU is surrounded by good ole' country people, and let’s face it, no one is nicer.
  31. D-Hall 2.0, coming 2018.
  32. Freshens in UREC is one of the best places to eat on campus and you can double punch there!
  33. Halloween weekend at JMU is legendary.
  34. JMU hosted College Gameday in 2015.
  35. Madipalozza is a huge field day in the Spring filled with games, concerts, and food!
  36. Hiking in the Shenandoah Valley is the best.
  37. The puppy farm is only a short drive away, if you need some puppy therapy.
  38. Two amazing libraries, Carrier and ECL, are both equipped with a Starbucks.
  39. Every fall and spring, JMU hosts a concert for their students.
  40. Nothing compares to JMU girls...
  41. JMU has a Chick-Fil-A and Auntie Anne’s on campus.
  42. The hills help you to avoid the Freshman 15.
  43. All students get into football games for free.
  44. Gaynelle in E-Hall is sweetest, most lovable person you will ever meet.
  45. CHOICES is an event for newly admitted Freshmen to come and tour the campus. One of the most exciting days as a newly admitted Duke!
  46. We beat Tech.
  47. Our Dukettes are national champions!
  48. Puppies on the Quad during midterms and finals.
  49. JMU hosts a Farmer's Market every Wednesday in the fall and you can use your meal plan there!
  50. Last but not least, National Champions 2004 and 2016.

Go ahead and send your deposit in, because trust me you want to be a Duke!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
