Nowadays anyone with a camera and an Internet connection can be a YouTuber, but only a few of them are actually successful. Even when they are successful, some of them just make videos of whatever is fun, or they just do it for the money. There are a few You Tubers, though, who have also used their fame to help the world in some way. They've let their fans into their lives and used their fame for good.
1. Dan and Phil
Dan Howell (Danisnotonfire) and Phil Lester (Amazing Phil) are my favorite YouTubers. They're funny, entertaining and relatable. Plus, they're British, which means they have sexy accents. A lot of their videos are about embarrassing things that have happened to them. Dan actually made a YouTube series called "Reasons Why Dan's A Fail" and Phil made some called "Why I was a weird kid" and "things I thought we're true that are not true." They own their weirdness instead of trying to hide it. Through Dan's videos, I realized he and I have a lot in common. He has a video called "I talk to myself" and I do the same thing he does. I also am not the best at human interaction; I care too much, I procrastinate, I have butterfingers (no, not the candy), I actually know what "the game" is and me and Dan both like "Doctor Who," The Sims and Pokemon. I probably have more in common with Dan Howell than I do with any other YouTuber. Realizing that other people do some of the weird stuff I do makes me feel less self conscious about it. No one's perfect, not even famous YouTubers. Dan and Phil wrote a book called "The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire" where they talk about their weirdness. I recommend it to everyone because it's awesome. Dan and Phil are currently on their U.S. tour "The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire." I would've loved to go see them, but unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and the D.C. show sold out, which made me really bummed (hey Dan and Phil, wanna hook me up?).
2. Tyler Oakley
Tyler Oakley is a beautiful ray of sunshine. He's almost always happy and his smile is incredibly infectious. Tyler is always inspiring and funny. He's gay and proud of it and a huge advocate for LGBT rights. He supports a charity called The Trevor Project and asks fans to donate money to it every year for his birthday. Tyler also wrote a book called "Binge" in which he exposes secrets and tells fans about his life. I was lucky enough to find a signed copy of his book and it's really good.
3. Shane Dawson
Shane Dawson is very real in his videos. He doesn't fake or over dramatize his reactions to things. Shane is funny but he has sort of an inappropriate sense of humor. I wouldn't recommend his videos for little kids, but I would definitely recommend them for teens and young adults. Shane came out as bisexual in an emotional video last year. That pride in who he is helps other LGBT people feel like it's OK to be LGBT and helps them accept and be proud of who they are instead of being ashamed of it. My favorite videos of his are his conspiracy theory videos because they're really interesting and they always get me thinking. Shane made a movie called "Not Cool." He also wrote a book called "I Hate Myselfie" in which he told stories about his life, and it was really good. He's currently writing a second book called "It Gets Worse," which I can't wait to read.
4. Joey Graceffa
Joey Graceffa lets fans into go life by doing vlogs all the time. His two huskies, Wolf and Storm, are in almost all of his videos. Joey is always himself in his videos, he's never fake with his fans. About a year ago, he made a music video called "Don't Wait" where he came out as gay. Adding another YouTuber to the list of YouTubers who have come out helps LGBT people feel more confident about embracing who they are. On Valentine's day he officially confirmed that he's dating Daniel Preda and the two have been dating for almost two years. Honestly Joey and Daniel, aka Janiel, are the cutest YouTube couple ever. Joey wrote a really good book called "In Real Life" where he talks about his life.
5. Ricky Dillon
Ricky Dillon is both a YouTuber and a singer. His first album, "Ordinary," came out in 2014 and his second album, "BEAT," came out in 2015. Ricky is always real with his fans and he accepts his imperfections. He never fakes anything In a video called "The Real Me" Ricky talks about all his insecurities and flaws. He tells his fans that they should be confident in who they are and shouldn't try to change themselves to please anyone. Ricky also did a mud run for charity and all the money that was raised was to help stop cancer. In addition to his music and YouTube videos, Ricky has a book coming out soon called "Follow Me."
