This is the era of social media and my favorite outlet is definitely YouTube. It's been around for a long time, giving time for so many viral videos from around the world. Videos of soldier homecomings, "fail" complications, makeup tutorials, laughing babies, angelic singers and so much more. There's definitely plenty of strange, dark or just confusing parts of YouTube, but I've found many channels that are actually worth your time. This community can educate, entertain and help people connect with people all over the world. Here are some of the best YouTube channels that I've come across.
1. Button Poetry.
Button Poetry is a channel that has been producing performance poetry since 2011. Groups travel state to state to spread their art. I love watching these performances because you can have a much more empathetic understanding for the experiences they've been through, along with the social, economic and political issues affecting the world.
2. ASAPscience.
This channel has always been a favorite of mine. The creators Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown creatively use whiteboards and drawings to teach the science questions we don't know. Somehow this channel makes science fun and clear.
3. Good Mythical Morning.
Hosts Rhett James McLaughlin and Charles Lincoln "Link" Neal III sit in front of their camera and just enjoy their time. Creating fun segments, the duo finds the strangest topics to talk about. These guys have another channel called Good Mythical More in which they talk more about the previous video and just anything else they want to say. Good Mythical Morning posts every day, so you can start off your day with a fun video.
4. BuzzfeedVideo.
BuzzfeedVideo is Buzzfeed's YouTube channel. Videos come in every day in a wide variety of themes. Groups work together to create series which are really entertaining. The point of this channel is to not only inform but also to spread opinions in a lighthearted and relatable way.
5. WilldaBeast Adams.
William "Willdabeast" Adams is a professional dancer and choreographer who is a part of an amazing community. On this channel, talented dancers from a spread of ages perform to new and popular songs. Although the style is hip-hop, every dancer has their approach to the choreography. WilldaBeast Adams also posts tutorials for the dances, so subscribers can learn just like the professionals.
So those are my five top favorite YouTube channels that are actually worth my time and can hopefully be worth yours, too. All of these channels entertain me but are all very different in content. Although YouTube's got some weird corners...channels like these make it the best social media platform.
