Well folks, it has finally happened. I am sick at college and it really is as bad as they say. Taking care of yourself is difficult enough in college when you're healthy: balancing due dates, work study jobs, sleep, exercise, and maybe a social life. But attempting to care for one's ill self is a whole new ball game. Here are the 5 worst things about being sick in college:
1. Advil can't fix everything
Moms spend years gathering all of the medicines for their trusty medical cabinet. Your access to her collection has suddenly vanished. The worst part is, you have to venture out on your own, while you are sick, to get your own medicine. It's terrible.
2. Leaving bed to get food
Long gone are the days of chicken noodle soup delivered to your bed and the dining hall suddenly seems so much farther away when you have a fever. Plus, their options for the sickly are never that great: What is 'three bean and dill' soup?
3. Keeping your germs to yourself
At home, you didn't have to worry about spreading your gross sick germs to your family because you knew they would forgive you. But in college, your germs are in much closer proximity to your roommate, who may not forgive you when they have pneumonia during their organic chemistry exam.
4. Due dates don't stop
In high school, staying home sick meant the day off: a day of watching movies and eternally napping. In college, it's hard enough missing class and staying up to date on the material but you also have to spend your sick time trying to be productive. We all know that isn't fun.
5. Being Alone
Perhaps the most difficult part of being sick in college, is the lack of company. Sitting alone (well, besides the Gilmore girls) in bed all day, blowing your nose and drinking tea gets pretty lonely. There are no Mom's to snuggle or binge watch Grey's Anatomy with.
Ultimately, just do not get sick in college. Although this can be especially difficult with the community living and close quarters, there is really nothing good to come of being sick at college.
