Webcomics. They're like little bites of joy, laughter, drama, ideas, and life that you can carry in your pocket (hello, App Store). Maybe I'm biased, as I've always loved the comics in newspapers, and lazy entertainment is the best entertainment (and what's lazier than looking at pictures?). So, inspired by my love of binge-reading webcomics in one shot, here are few webcomics anyone can love and I assure you are going to brighten your day.
1. BlueChair
A quirky little comic series made by Shen, the incredibly popular Blue Chair (and OwlTurd) is literally hilarious and so easy to get into. Just pick a random episode and get started. You may have seen some of his shorts on Pinterest, Tumblr, or Facebook, but there's so much more. You can find him on Webtoon (it's an app or a website), and I promise you- you won't regret it!!
2. Shoot Around
A little more dramatic with an ongoing storyline, this already-completed Webtoon is great to either binge straight through or enjoy one episode at a time. The zombie apocalypse has begun while a girl's basketball team was at practice, so now our heroes are stuck with only their coach as a guide and their wits and great personalities to survive. If you're wanting something truly unique that will move you, make you laugh out loud, warm your heart, and make you open your mind, this is the series for you. (A fair warning, this web-comic does include relationships and issues regarding LGBTQ+ individuals. I found this to be a really great look at the lives and worries of people from a different walk of life, but if those lifestyles bother you - please keep that in mind.)
3. As Per Usual
Another quick comedy comic that doesn't take itself too seriously, As Per Usual by Dami Lee is a hilarious and cute series that's really good at brightening your day. Her funny ramblings and relatable failures are great after a mind-numbing class or a long day, and her quirkiness is sure to make you remember that you're not the only weirdo in the world. She's great. I love her. There are easily over a hundred already and she updates super frequently so if you subscribe to her on Webtoon- there's sure to be plenty of her to make your day!
4. Yumi's Cells
Like an expansion of Inside Out, Yumi's Cells is the story of the daily life of Yumi Kim through the eyes of her cells. You know all the voices in your head while making decisions? In Yumi's head, these are all characters that feel, talk, and act in hilarious and heartfelt ways. It takes a bit to get used to being inside characters' heads and then out into the real world again, but I promise you it's worth it. It's a very heartwarming story and so simple yet so great at the same time. Seeing how Yumi and the characters around her grow over the series is amazing and the lessons Yumi learns through the story are definitely lessons worth learning (especially if you're a typically nice person.)
5. Elf and Warrior
Hilarious, odd, and a very quirky look at fantasy comics, Elf and Warrior is great. It's fresh and quick to the punchline, so it really doesn't take that long to get into. Starring a good elf that has no idea what he's doing and his thieving uncle that's still figuring out this whole "morals" thing, Elf and Warrior makes the world of elves, creatures and magic so uncomplicated and entirely hilarious. From a land filled with Puglins (where the best reward you can get is a belly rub and being called a "good boy") to creatures with as much charm and humor as their masters, this comic is a great bit of humor in flavors saracastic, dark, and witty.
There are SO MANY more, but here are a few of my favorites that I've really enjoyed as of late! My humor is certainly unique, so what I find funny may not be to you, but I promise you there is so much gold lying in the world of web comics and it's so easy to find. Whether you're looking to binge or just get a quick laugh - the world of web comics is great and so easy to get into. All of these comics and so many more can be found on Webtoon which has both an app and website, but several others sites and platforms can serve up some fresh comics to you as well.
Thank you for reading!
