Last week we explored the impact depression can take on a person and also what we can do as a friend, coworker, classmate, or family member to help someone out. There are times though when just words or listening aren't enough. That's why I am here to help you, help someone else. I heard you liking helping.
1. Youth Success NYC
A lot of us have no idea where to start when looking for help. Youth Success NYC is an incredible resource that helps you find other resources in your neighborhood. They can help you with your questions on mental health, immigration, or LGBT issues. It's an excellent place to start.
2. The Child Center of New York
Some of us may want to find help for children. Well The Child Center of New York should be your first stop when it comes to emotionally supporting the children of our community.
3. Long Island Crisis Center
For those that live in Long Island. LICC has 24/7 suicide hotlines available with the best trained staff. They also offer connections to other agencies in New York. They are confidential and dedicated to supporting their community. They also offer volunteer opportunities for those that really want to start helping.
4. Pride For Youth
The sister organization of LICC, Pride For Youth is there to support those in the LGBTQ community. They serve Nassau County, Suffolk County, and Queens.
5. Catholic Charities
I know that the word catholic may turn some people off but please check them out. They offer services to children, families, the homeless, immigrants and refugees looking for support.
Help is always there for us and hopefully I was able to help you out with these few services that are available for us.
