5 Ways You Can Get "Un-bored" This Summer

Binge watching on Netflix is so last year.

For most students, summer has arrived. Finals are over, school is out, and backpacks have been stored in the way back of your closet. Endless beach days, road trips and long summer evenings with your best friends are officially here.

However, even when you try to plan a beach day or road trip with friends, how often does it really happen? Let's be honest, you'll probably spend this summer binge watching Netflix (even though this was literally the itinerary for last summer too...)

If you're looking to try something new this season, then close that laptop, put your phone down, pump up the volume and invite some friends over. Here are five things you can do with friends this summer to get totally un-bored and make the days count.

1. Host a breakfast party.

Yes, this requires you to get up before 11 a.m., but it will be worth the effort. Starting your day earlier is motivational in itself, and making a bomb breakfast for you and your best friends is an even better way! Set up the kitchen, make an amazing spread, put some tunes on and even have your friends come in their pajamas. (Because it's summer and there are no rules.)

If you want to be really fancy, and the weather allows, set up a picnic table in the backyard and have a great feast in the sun.

2. Go to a music festival

Nearly every town has a festival or concert going on in the area. Summer is festival season, so basically, it's the best time to hang out and listen to some amazing artists. Go online and find something happening in your area, or if it's a bit farther away, make a road trip out of it with some friends.

3. Start a YouTube channel

Nowadays, everyone is trying to become internet famous, whether it is on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter or any other popular platform. Putting that aside, don't do it for the likes or the fame. If you're a creative person looking for an outlet, try your hand at video. You can make videos about literally anything, and you can even shoot and edit them on an iPhone.

4. Try your hand at photography

If photos are more your speed, try looking at objects in a new way and photographing them. Look to Instagram for inspiration -- search for professional photographers' accounts. Again, you don't even need a fancy camera for this. Just some time, patience, and your camera phone.

5. Make your own popsicles

Popsicles are a summer staple. Your freezer is probably fully stocked at all times, but going to the store isn't the only option. If you have an ice cube tray and some popsicle sticks or toothpicks, you can put basically any liquid you desire in the ice cube compartments and let it freeze for a few hours. Then... boom! You've got some home made treats.

These are only a few ideas to keep you occupied this summer season. Hopefully these ideas got you inspired to do more! Make this summer the one you will look back on with fond memories, not regrets about sitting around too much.

If it helps, try making the ultimate summer bucket list. This will inspire you to get up, get out and go.

Happy adventuring!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
