Recently, an audio recording surfaced of a conversation between former radio host Billy Bush, and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In this recording, Mr. Trump and Mr. Bush were making extremely offensive and lewd comments about women. These comments included Trump telling about a time where he tried to sleep with a married woman, and claiming that his fame allows him to do whatever he wants to women. “Grab them by the p***y,” he says. “You can do anything.”
I could go into further detail about what a scumbag Trump is for saying these horrible things, but I won’t because I’m sure that’s apparent at this point. However, after this video came out, Donald Trump released a statement apologizing for his comments, claiming “Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am.” This really stood out to me, because I can recall numerous times that Donald Trump has made disparaging or offensive comments about women. So, in light of the debates and this recent scandal, here are five examples of Donald Trump showing his true colors.
1. He told a breastfeeding mother “You’re disgusting.”
During one of his many lawsuits, the opposing lawyer, Elizabeth Beck, asked for a medical break so that she could pump breast-milk for her 3-month-old child. After Trump and his lawyers opposition to this break, he told the woman that she was disgusting, then stormed out of the courtroom. This is not disputed by either side, and you can read more about the lawsuit and some other comments by Mr. Trump here.
2. He once told New York Times columnist Gail Collins that she had “the face of a dog.”
In 2011, Collins wrote about Donald Trump once, referring to him as a “financially embattled thousandaire.” This obviously offended Trump, and with his short temperament and quick-to-act personality, he mailed her back a copy of her column, including a photo of herself circled with the words “The Face of a Dog!” over it. I don’t feel like I need to further explain why that is offensive or obscene.
3. In 2007, he tried to start a reality-competition show called “Lady or a Tramp?”
This reality show featured women who enjoyed the night life who were sent to charm school to learn “debutante manners.” According to Variety, the women on this show were sent to the UK charm school Eggleston Hall, where they would be required to wear tweed skirts and pearl necklaces, and would be taught the “finer points of skills,” including flower arranging and needlework. They would then compete in challenges in these skills, and one contestant would be expelled each episode.
4. He blamed sexual assault on cohabitation.
In May of 2013, Trump tweeted that sexual assault should be expected “when you put men and women together.” Not only is this suggesting that it is the victims fault for working with someone of the opposite gender, but also that people cannot control their urges and should be excused of their actions because “it’s to be expected.”
5. On Carly Fiornia – “Look at that face; who would vote for that?”
Trump said these words to a reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine, then admitted to being quoted accurately. He backpedaled to defend himself by claiming that there was a double standard. He told Fox News “When I get criticized about my hair, nobody does a story about ‘Oh, isn’t that terrible, they criticized Donald Trump’s hair.”
I could continue with a very long list of times that Donald Trump has shown his sexism and feelings towards women, however I feel like my point has been made. If you are a woman, and truly support Donald Trump, I want you to listen to what he says about women. Women like you and me, who are beautiful, strong, intelligent, and capable of anything. I strongly encourage that you listen, and think about how you would feel if someone said these things to your mother, your daughter, your sister, or even you.
