Everyone deserves to treat themselves, and often. Sometimes treating yourself comes with an unnecessary guilt, but this type of mindset is dangerous. It’s super easy for college students to go weeks without a sufficient break. Resting and happiness are just as important as your GPA. And if you do it right, you can relax while maintaining your grades. Thankfully for you, I have compiled a few ways to take that long overdue break.
1. Nap
Napping is every student’s favorite pastime. If you’re taking a nap it’s usually either a power nap to give you energy to complete 582 assignments or it’s a nap to occupy that awkward amount of time before your next class. Either way, naps are a great way to relax. Try taking more naps because sleep deprivation isn’t healthy and can be seen in your work.
2. Netflix
What isn’t great about Netflix? I love being able to take a 30-minute TV break from homework to relax. Usually, TV doesn’t take a lot of brain power which is great when you’re studying for 15 tests and working on 20 projects. Netflix can also be used on Friday nights when the only way to relax is a hilarious movie and copious amounts of cookies.3. Food
Food is necessary for survival and preferred for relaxation. Whether it’s dessert before dinner, a quick snack or a nice dinner with friends, food is always enjoyable. A lot of restaurants and grocery stores give student discounts, so you can keep your savings for textbooks. As long as you don’t binge eat cookie dough the night before a big test, I think you’ll be fine.
4. A night out
This option is best for when all of your friends have had a bad week and it’s Friday. Depending on what you’re into, and whether you are 21 or older, this option varies. A personal favorite for me is simply not making any plans. Grab your friends and head to a friend’s apartment or a store and then let the night lead you to your next destination. More options include parties, fancy dinners, movie theaters, exploring your college town, and even skating. But in reality, any event is a ‘night out’ if it’s past 4 pm and you’re outside of your room.
5. Relaxation
This option is very broad, and it includes anything that makes your worries melt away. Some good examples are hot tubbing, meditation, a relaxing shower, a long night of sleep, or a movie night. One of my personal favorites is hot tubbing. It’s relaxing exercise, I can go swimming and then follow up with a dip in the hot tub. It’s a perfect option if you tend to feel guilty about taking a break, because exercise if productive!
