It might be weird to think you'll have to be "surviving" your holiday break because you finally don't have to worry about class! But, you probably are all for avoiding your family's harrowing questions and awkward moments for about three weeks. I find it easy to stay occupied for the first week before Christmas, but once the holidays are over, how long will you last? So, here are a few things to keep you occupied while you're stuffing your face with holiday cookies and leftovers!

1. Go out with friends to see holiday lights!

Whether you live in a small town or a big city, there is always something to see when it comes to celebrating the most wonderful time of the year! Plus, all of your hometown friends will be dying to see you (hopefully). Whether you go to Chicago, New York, Michigan or Arizona, enjoy the holidays with the ones you love!

2. Exercise (Yes you'll need to burn off some steam).

What better way to burn off frustration and those holiday calories? Even if it's cold in your area, you could always pay for a one-week pass! Start your New Year's resolution early. You can even join a new workout class like yoga or cardio-kickboxing! Whatever you decide to do, be as active as you can!

3. Go see that holiday movie!

Any Star Wars fans? Well go out and enjoy a holiday movie with your family. That way, you don't have to worry about paying ten dollars to enjoy some lightsaber battles. Whether you go with friends or family, this is a great way to escape reality for two hours before you have to go to any family parties.

4. Hot chocolate tasting party (you heard that right).

If you're strapped for cash and don't want to go out to the bar and blow your holiday cash, you can spend it on a party with friends doing some hot chocolate tasting! They are fun, affordable, and you can slip in some rum chata (if you're legal of course). What better way to hang out with friends while you're home?

5. Netflix and binge!

Have you finished the new season of Fuller House yet? What better way to binge than being locked in your house while it's snowing outdoors (and to avoid any family interactions you don't want to be a part of).

Whether you are with friends or family, enjoy the time you have with your loved ones! You only get a few weeks to not stress about classes, so make sure you spend it right. Even though the holidays can become overbearing, make time with your family, because once you get back to school, you'll miss your time with them more than you know.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
