5 Ways to Stay Festive and Survive Finals Week

We all know the holiday season is finally upon us. It may not feel like December outside, but folks, we have almost made it through another year. For many of us, this means the great thing called finals week. Okay, so maybe it isn't that great. But why not take a little break from studying and get in the holiday spirit and decorate your dorm room. Here are some festive ways you can decorate your dorm room and make it feel like the North Pole threw up all over your hall.

1. Play Christmas Music, All the Time

Okay, so maybe not all the time, because there are only so many Christmas songs, but holiday music has a way of cheering people up. Even if you have to review a whole notebook of notes.

2. Hang Christmas Lights

And I am not just talking about one sting of lights, no you go all out. Make it so bright that there is no way Santa could miss your hall on his trip.

3. Make Cookies

I know this one is going to be hard, because not everyone likes cookies. Okay, so I could barely even get through that. Everyone loves cookies, and they are a great pick up when you want to scream from trying to complete an entire lab report the night before your class in the morning.

4. Get a Little Christmas Tree

Dorm rooms are like little shoe boxes, trust me I know. But getting a little Christmas tree is a nice little addition to your room that will make it really sink in that Christmas is right around the corner. Or more importantly, Christmas break!

5. Watch Christmas Movies

Christmas movies have a way to make everything seem better. I mean, Elf is one of the funniest movies, and you can watch it a million times and not get sick of it. Not saying that I know that from experience or anything.

Finals week is probably the most stressful time for all college kids right now, but I promise that you will get through it. Being in the Christmas spirit can definitely help with that, so go and watch Elf ten times and shove your face with some cookies and study your notes.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
