The Christmas Break Blues: We all know the feeling.

The weeks and even months leading up to Christmas day are filled with excitement, anticipation, and wonder. Through finals and classes and budgeting to buy presents there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is Christmas Day. However, when all the presents are opened, dinner is eaten and relatives have gone home one is often left with a feeling of emptiness. Aside from New Year’s, everything you looked forward to this year has passed. Any significant upcoming break or holiday is months away.

Well, I’m here to inform you of a few ways to stave off these feelings.

Fine Tune Your New Year’s Resolutions List

Even though you secretly know that you won’t likely be hitting the gym three weeks from now, there’s a sense of accomplishment in having goals. So, revise your list. Maybe add a couple more, and knock off a couple you know aren't realistic. Just keep it easy, this is supposed to make you look forward to the new year, not dread it.

Binge Your Favorite Show On Netflix

You may be sad that Christmas day has passed, but Christmas Break is still alive and thriving! Take this time to truly enjoy it...and by enjoy it I mean completely vedge out. While I prefer The Office, any show or movie will work. Get your binge watch on and you're sure to forget those Christmas blues Faster than Micheal Scott can say "That's What She Said."

Take Stock Of Your Presents

Whether its from a loved one or you decided to 'treat yo' self', it's pretty likely you received some Christmas gifts this year. Take a moment to appreciate them, and maybe thank the giver again. Being grateful for what we have is a good way to find contentment in our lives.

Spend Time With Family

For many students, Christmas break is the last time you'll be able to be home for a few months. Spend some quality time with your family (or high school friends) and those blues are sure to melt away.

Prepare For Next Semester

Whether you like it or not, Christmas break will inevitably end. So, make sure to take a few hours to ensure you're entirely prepared for next semester. Having that out of the way will take off a little stress that might be causing some extra blues and allow you to truly make the most of your remaining break.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
