5 Easy Ways To Memorize Scripture
Ally Rogers

As believers we are called to share the good news of Christ with those around us, but what do you say when that time comes to share the gospel? We need to be armed with scripture to spread this news. Although it may be tricky to know scripture, there are many ways to put these words to memory.

1. Write it down on your hand.

This is my favorite way to to put scripture to memory. If I come across a verse that I love, I will write down the first letter of each word on my hand so that every time I look at my watch or fiddle with my hands, I will see that verse. Just writing down the first letter to each word could also be a quizzing technique because you are not seeing the full verse!

"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ." -Philippians 3:20

2. Sticky notes on your laptop.

Many people place sticky notes on their laptop to remember to study for that big test or to remind them to be at that job interview at 4:00. Why not use the same tool to help memorize scripture? Write your verse on a sticky note, put it on your laptop, and be reminded daily. Don't have a sticky note? Use a small piece of paper and tape! (Also, many computers have a sticky note program built in!)

3. Set a picture of the scripture as your phone's background.

This is so helpful and also extremely cute. I am a huge Pinterest fan, and I am constantly pinning cute pictures of verses from the Bible. Why not go the extra mile, save that picture, and set it as the background to your phone? (You can also find these pictures on Google!)

4. Carry a note card with the verse on it in your purse, wallet, or backpack.

I have totally done this before, and it is not as pointless as it seems! Whenever I had a time when I was doing nothing in a class or waiting on time to pass by when I was out and about, I would go to my wallet and pull out the card. I would read it a few times, try to say it without looking, made sure I knew it, and then put it away- that simple!

5. Stay in the word.

The easiest one! Just by reading scripture and staying in my Bible, I have learned to remember what I have read and share that with others!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
