Good morning, sunshine! I have always been a morning person, often up before anyone else around. To keep this introduction short and sweet, here are five things that I do every morning to make everyday a good day.
1. Make Your Bed.
I never made my bed growing up. I was actually under the impression that most people didn't. Then I met my boyfriend, and he always made his. When I moved away to college, one goal of mine was to start making my bed as soon as I woke up. Of course, I wanted to look neat for my new roommates but I also wanted to create good habits. I cannot approve of this method enough. My room looked cleaner, my mind was organized and I got to go to bed in a made bed, which is 10 times better than an unmade bed. The benefits of making your bed go so far, and that's why this was number one on my list.
2. Read Something Inspirational.
For me, it's my scriptures, but there are tons of other things you can read. I know countless people with Pinterest accounts with a quotes or an inspiration board. How easy would it be to find a quote you like, an inspiring Odyssey article, or an incredible story? You could also listen to something positive. Ted talks or Youtube offer a large range of inspiring stories and ideas. With the world being as negative as it is, I love starting my day by reading something that makes me feel good, and makes me see the world in a positive way. It is also a refreshing change from the normal drama and negativity seen on Twitter and Facebook in the morning.
3. Eat A Good Breakfast.
I know, I know – you have always been told this, but I love breakfast. Being the college student that I am, I don't have the time or money to have a wide variety of foods, but I can make eggs, cut fruit, toast bread, or blend greens. It's no surprise that most people skip breakfast – but it should be. So if you are one of those people, change that habit by eating a granola bar or a cup of yogurt. The possibilities are endless (though leftover pizza, although delicious, is not the best thing to eat first thing in the morning).
4. Send A Good Morning Text.
Every person loves waking up to a message that says good morning. Anyone who says they don't, has either never had one, or is in denial. Even if you don't have a significant other that most people would text, you can send one to your parents, a sibling, a neighbor, friend, or even a sibling's friend. No matter who you send the text to, it's a great way to spread positivity around, and you can help someone else start their day off on a good note. The smallest things go a long way.
5. Don't Hit The Snooze Button.
This is a death trap! Don't do it. If you do it once, you will be delayed, annoyed, and you won't want to get up. I'm not saying you can't sit in bed for a few minutes and check your email and social media accounts but don't sleep longer. Waking up can stink, particularly when an annoying alarm is going off but if you have to wake up to that same noise multiple times, your morning will not run any smoother. The best thing to do is to set your alarm somewhere else in the room, so that you have to get up to turn it off. I don't do this often because my alarm is on my phone and I don't like to keep my phone too far from my reach, but maybe that's a habit I should break.
So there are my ideas. I love mornings (most of the time) and these things are definitely factors that I give credit to. I'd like to believe that anyone who wants to be a morning person can be.
