I think we can all agree that mornings are not fun. Especially when you have a million things to do during the day and hiding under the covers seems like a good idea. We hit snooze, rush through getting ready, and dash out the door like a whirlwind. After a morning like that, the whole day feels rushed and disorganized, making a good mood kind of difficult. So skip the hurricane style morning by following these easy tips that don’t require any major lifestyle changes.
1. Set an alarm that will wake you up in a good mood.
My favorite alarms are the most upbeat, pumped up, seize the day type songs on my phone. By playing a song I enjoy, I’m more likely to leave it playing and actually get out of bed instead of turning it off and going back to sleep. I prefer songs because loud noises like beeping generally scare me awake. Not a pleasant way to start the day.
2. Schedule your day the night before.
Scheduling is a great way to feel like you have everything together. By scheduling out the next day before you go to sleep, you reduce the stress of trying to cram it all in at random times throughout the day. My personal way to do this is by keeping Google Calendar on my phone. It syncs your calendar across devices connected to your Google account, and since I am never without my phone or laptop, it’s a great way of keeping me on track.
3. Lay out your clothes the night before.
OK, this one’s a given. We’ve all been there, standing in front of the closet, looking at the clothes and unable to decide on anything to wear. Then the startling moment when you realize how long you’ve been standing there, so you throw on the first thing your hand lands on to avoid being late. Picking out an outfit the night before can eliminate these moments of panic and give you time to make sure you’re pleased with the end result.
4. Give yourself an incentive to get out of bed.
Plan to get a good breakfast or your favorite coffee drink. Get up early and squeeze in an episode of your favorite TV show or a chapter of a really good book. Give yourself something to look forward to so that getting out of bed doesn’t seem like such a bad thing. Plus, nothing improves sets you up to have a good mood all day quite like a treat first thing in the morning!
5. Ensure you get the best sleep possible so you don’t wake up feeling groggy.
The best way to ensure that you get a good night’s rest is to relax before bed. I know deadlines can be a pain, but it’s best to turn off the laptop and set aside the textbooks at least thirty minutes before going to sleep. Do something relaxing like coloring, reading, listening to music, or something along those lines to let your mind relax. The less stress you put on yourself before bed, the better sleep, and ultimately the better morning, you’ll have.
