Your best friend's birthday is a big deal. It's not just some birthday alert you get on Facebook saying "it's so and so's birthday today" and you don't even know the person. It's not just a friend's birthday; it's your BEST friend's birthday. Now, I don't know about you, but I love birthdays with a passion. I'm basically the Leslie Knope of birthdays. If Leslie Knope were real, I would be her when it comes to birthday celebrations. And for me, it's not just a birthday, it's a birth week.

My college best friend's birthday was this past Tuesday. Last year, I just posted a post on Facebook with a photo and that was it. Done. This year, it got personal. I planned her a birth week with each day having a surprise for her. And for me, I don't expect anything in return. I do kind acts because it makes me feel good, and I know that it will make my friend feel good as well.

If you love birthdays like I do, here are 5 ways you can make your friend's birthday fantastic:

1. Make a collage

Making a collage can be an artsy way to show your best friend how much you appreciate him or her. You can use PhotoGrid, which is an app I tend to use, which lets you select photos from your phone and automatically makes these photos into a collage. I post my collages to my friend's Facebook Timeline, with a nice message! Hey, that's a nice transition to my next item on this list!

2. Write your best friend a kind message on Facebook or Instagram

We all need to feel appreciated; it's human nature. I also feel that the person spreading kindness feels good while doing it as well. That's why I love writing cards or posts on my friends' social media pages! They are so amazing and deserve it, and I feel great appreciating them. I wrote my best friend a wall post on Facebook with a collage I made for her. It's a classic Grace move for a birthday. Classic Grace.

3. Write a list of adjectives that describe your friend and post it

This is just another way to tell your friend how amazing they are. Hopefully, they already know they are an awesome person, but hey - we all need a reminder! Also, with the society that we live in now, negativity and comparing ourselves to others is the "norm." But that's another story

4. Film yourself singing a popular song, but instead of using the traditional lyrics, make the lyrics about your friendship

For me, I filmed myself singing "Closer" by The Chainsmokers, but I changed the lyrics to sing how amazing my best friend is. It was a lot of fun, and she loved it! Just have fun with it!

5. Write a "truth is" post

Truth is you should definitely do this! This is a last way that you can express your appreciation for how incredible your friend is. You can talk about memories with your BFF or really anything that comes to mind.

Alyssa, if you are reading this, I hope you are enjoying your birth week. Don't worry, it's so not over! You're the bestest best friend a girl could ever ask for. I love the memories, laughs, stories, and shade we have shared. Keep on being the amazing person you are, and don't let anyone dim your sparkle!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
