5 Ways To Make The Most Out Of Your Spring Break

It's that time of year again. The tests and papers are piling up, and it seems like you have no time to relax. You have a spring break countdown in your calendar (or mentally) and just can't wait to have room to breathe. Here are some tips to get the most out of your spring break, and come back rejuvenated and ready to finish off the term the right way.

1. Go off the grid

We use technology enough as it is during the school week. Between classes or every chance we get, we check our phones and social media. In class, when we don't feel like paying attention, some people admittedly go on their computers. Use spring break to get off the grid, and put your phone down. You will be surprised by how much more you can get out of your day by getting off your phone. And besides,, who wants to be on their phone all day when you could be on the beach?

2. Get outside

Utilize the fact that you aren't inside a classroom or library all day. Go for a nature walk, eat outside, and if you're on vacation, enjoy the beach or the pool and the sun's rays.

3. Catch up on sleep

Chances are, you most likely haven't gotten a solid nights sleep in a while. While sleeping in too late can result in missing out on a full day, there is an appropriate time where it's okay to sleep in once in a while. Over spring break, try skipping the alarm once in a while.

4. Spend time with family and friends

When you are around people you care about, be fully present. Take in their company, and enjoy the limited time that you have together.

5. Try to forget about school work (for the time being)

Spring break, or any breaks, should be exactly just that, a break. No matter how much it may be bothering you that you might have failed the quiz you took the day before school got out, or how stressed you are about applying for that internship, try to get rid of those worries. Really use this time to relieve your stress and any worries that you may have.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
