You've been babied for 18 years of your life, meals made, laundry done and then poof you graduate high school and it all changes. Of course starting college can be a new and exciting fresh start, but it's also stressful. The worries can build up when you are beginning a new chapter of your life and leaving your home. Here are 5 ways to make leaving home easier.
1. Make the best of summer.
After prom, graduation, and all the graduation parities it's time to enjoy your summer and make the best of it. Start planning days where you can have friends over, or even go to the beach. The summer before college is key because it might be the last time you see all your friends together. You only have 2-3 months, so enjoy it.
2. Get excited for dorm shopping.
It might be the only time you can decorate a space without having to pay for everything on your own, so get creative! Make your dorm your home and add your own style into it. A dorm is the best way to express yourself and have fun at the same time. Shopping with friends is even better to get opinions and get in the spirit for decorating your small, small space.
3. Spend a lot of time with family.
They might miss you.
4. Work.
While having fun and enjoying your self is a great way to make the best of it, working can also make leaving home easier. Think about it, you spend countless hours at your job, who will miss that? So work and make money since you will be broke in a few months.
5. Don't dwell on the past, focus on the future.
Yes, high school was the best 4 years of your life (maybe) but, get excited for hopefully the next best 4 years. Sure starting a whole new chapter, living on your own, and finding the rest of your life can be a hard thing to adjust to but don't focus on the bad and focus on the good. Starting college can be so exciting, especially if you have never had any freedom in your life. Always remember freshmen, there are plenty of people in the same boat as you are. Just remember you get to start over and make a mark for yourself. After all, you're paying a lot of money.
