5 Ways To Keep the Christmas Spirit Alive During Finals Week
History

We're finally in the month of December, Christmas is coming up soon. Everyone is getting in the Christmas spirit. If you're a college student, your holiday spirit might be in the dumps. Finals probably have you in less than a jolly mood. Here's a couple of ways to keep the Christmas spirit alive while studying for the impending finals.

1. Listen to Christmas Music All Month:

Christmas music is one of the most joyous parts of the holiday season. The lively tune and merry voices put everyone in a cheery mood. Christmas songs are a timeless tradition. College students are most likely preparing for finals at this point of the semester. Listening to Christmas music can help keep the holiday spirit alive. It also aids in keeping everyone awake. Coffee and Christmas music should help energize us all during finals.

2. Decorate or Enjoy the Decorations:

If you have the time and the money decorate your dorm to lighten up the mood. Christmas lights and snowmen make everything seem brighter and happier. If you don't have the time an the money, there are always alternative method to cheering yourself up. The campus itself most likely has lights strung or a Christmas tree set up somewhere. You can always take a walk around campus at night to enjoy the lighting, or you could sit in a room that's covered in decorations while studying.

3. Enjoy a Cup of Hot Cocoa:

Hot Cocoa is something that definitely warms the spirit. It's a warm beverage that keeps your hands warm while walking to class. It's also delicious and meaningful. It's a long lasting winter/Christmas tradition that everyone can follow. Not only is it traditional and warm, but it's also sweet. You can add marshmallows or leave them out. Either way, enjoy the scrumptiously warm beverage.

4. Watch Christmas Movies:

Play some Christmas movies in the background while you're studying. If you're like me you have to have background noise while studying. It helps you focus and keeps you awake. It also lightens your mood, which keeps you happily working. If you're somebody who cannot work with background noise, then take a break to enjoy a short holiday film. That small break might help you immensely. It could raise your spirits and help you to keep your eyes open. Putting yourself in a happy mood is a huge help when it comes to staying awake and focusing. Whether you're a Hallmark movie fan or an Elf fan, there's always a joyous Christmas movie that can be watched.

5. Wear Christmas Clothes:

Ugly Christmas sweaters are pretty much the greatest article of clothing every created. They're warm, big, and fluffy. It automatically makes anyone feel like a kid again. It also keeps you from freezing in the cold weather. If you don't have an ugly Christmas sweater, then wear something similar. Any big sweater helps ward of the cold. If it's in a Christmas color such as red or green it's an even better example of holiday cheer.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. "Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
