5 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Day

Have you had those days when you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Of course you have, who hasn't? Those days make you feel gross and sad and ready for a restart button for your morning. Unfortunately those don't exactly exist in the world, BUT you can choose to make your day better. I know that sometimes it is easier just to be a slug and be moody, but why waste a perfectly day being grumpy when you could be happy? Here are some easy ways to improve your worst days and make them the best!

1. Compliment someone.

This seems weird. I know. Trust me. But someone a couple years ago challenged me to compliment someone every day. I thought it wouldn’t be hard but I realized that I am sort of an introverted person and most of the compliments that I have are in my head. I realized that once I told someone that I liked their shoes or they have a great smile (no matter how random or strange I sounded) it made the other person feel great! Now don’t just lie to someone to make them feel better but the next time you see a guy’s cool haircut or appreciate someone’s helpfulness, let them know! Remember: compliments are free.

2. Work out.

Don’t even start to roll your eyes. I totally get why this would seem annoying and like every other blog. You get it: working out is a healthy way of living and you feel better about yourself blah blah blah. While that sounds like a bunch of baloney, it kind of sort of is just a teeny bit true. I used to hate working out because I had to do it for sports, but now I just feel more productive because I want to work out. Now you don’t have to have be a gym rat, but it’s good to just take a walk or run around the neighborhood or do some practical exercises like lunges or jumping jacks. Something simple can go a long way!

3. Wear your favorite outfit.

I am a 100% believer in this mentality. There are some days where I would much rather not even get out of my pajamas if I didn’t have to. But unfortunately, most of us have to be adults which mean real clothes. If you are just not feeling work or school, try putting together your best outfit! You already know that you love it so why not wear it?

4. Eat something healthy.

Okay, this is totally like the work out thing and once again I get it. I’ll be completely honest and say I am probably the pickiest eater you will ever meet so don’t even think about making me eat vegetables and tofu. But there are simpler ways, that I realized, thanks to my dad, to be healthier. First of all, don’t eat as much ice cream (that’s specifically at me). Second, try eating at home instead of eating out or going to fast food restaurants. You can limit your portion control and try new recipes out with friends and family. It's a great way to connect with people and be a healthy new you.

5. Be surrounded by people who love you.

I realized that this is HUGE. Sometimes when you’re having a bad day, all you want is to feel validated and loved by people, and what better way to do that then to confide in those types of people? I know that some family and friends may be far away so it’s not like you can just go down the hall and hug them, but that’s why we live in the 21st century with technology where you can call or text or Facetime or Skype or whatever the cool kids are doing these days. Being around people who love you is an important reminder that not all bad days have to be bad.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
