We all know that reading slump is a pain in the beep. You have no desire to read whatsoever and everything seems more interesting than reading a book. But deep down, you DO want to finish that dang book.
Here are five things that I usually do to get over my reading slump, hopefully it will help you too!
1. Listen to Audiobook
Audiobook is a great way to catch up to a story without really having to actually read the book. You don’t have to particularly find a time to read, you just have to listen! And like listening to music, you can listen to audiobooks anywhere and anytime! When you’re doing your chores, when you’re driving, when you’re about to sleep. There are some really great audiobooks out there, you just have to find the perfect one for you! Various applications like audible.com offer you so many great audiobooks with great narrators as well. Plus, if the story becomes rather good and you feel like listening to the audiobook is not as fast as you reading the story yourself, you can always pick up the book and boom! Your reading slump is over!
2. Reread Your Favorite Books
Reading your all-time favorite books is always a treat – especially at a crisis time like this! You don’t necessary have to finish the whole book, maybe read some of your favorite scenes and before you know it, you’re reading the entire book!
For this also, I would like to highly recommend rereading Harry Potter series because they are all such an easy read😉
3. Buy New Books
This might be a bit pricey but hey difficult times call for desperate measure, right? Yeah sure you already got some unread books on your shelves, but if you don’t have any interest on picking one up from your shelf then it’s totally okay to go to a bookstore! Maybe all you need is a new shiny book that you can smell and dive into it right away!
4. Find a New Cozy Place to Read
If you usually read in your bed, on your couch, or inside your house, you NEED to go out there! Read in a park, yes there are lots of people – but there is also fresh air that’s good for you. Read in a coffee shop, they usually put on some good chill out songs that will help you focus on your book a bit more, plus they have coffee so that’s always a good thing. Or if you don’t feel like going out, build yourself a reading nook with lots of pillows and fuzzy blanket and don’t forget to put up some cute fairy lights to set up the mood!
5. Read a Different Genre
Reading the same genre over and over again might cause a boredom. If you love reading fantasy, maybe try some poetry book. If you love reading romance, maybe try some mystery book. Try reading any genre you like really, because hey you might surprise yourself.
