5 Ways To Distract Yourself From Writing Your Article

Distraction is an art form that I am willing to drop everything I need to do in order to learn.

5 Ways To Distract Yourself From Writing Your Article

Writing. It's kind of frustrating. Yes, I love having an outlet. Yes, I would hate giving it up. But sometimes, I just don't have anything to say. Sometimes I get to the end of the week, and I have said everything I have to say. Writing is not easy. It will occasionally come naturally, but the majority of the time, it is partnered with lots of brain storming, never ending adjectives and a LOT of distractions!

So, what are 5 of my favorite ways to distract myself from writing an article?

1. Pretend to have things on your to do list that have never been top priority before.

For instance, cleaning. Most college students do not have time or frankly care very much if their apartment/dorm is spotless. But, when it is time to do homework or write articles, cleaning quickly moves up the rank of important things to do. Not just some light dusting, but full on deep cleaning. No stopping until it sparkles. It is way to hard to focus with that dirty bowl in the sink;).

2. I love to make myself a commitment to not do any school for a day.

For some reason, I think that making myself a promise not to do any work that day will somehow make it disappear. It doesn't.

3. Restart that hobby you picked up in 8th grade but haven't touched since.

Color by numbers? PERFECT! Hat Making? EVEN BETTER! Basically anything is up for grabs.

4. Become spontaneously obsessed with something.

Fixing the sink, binge watching "Grey's Anatomy," learning to play kazoo, table building (I have personal proof that this one works as a distraction!) It does not matter what it is you want to accomplish as long as it is not what you actually NEED to be doing.

5. As a last ditch effort to avoid writing, you can decide it is time to get in shape.

For me, this involves meal planning, couponing, exercise programs I never end up doing. This is easily exchanged for school because both involve being better or learning more. So, pick up those 5 lbs. weights and the bouncy ball that have been sitting in your closet since New Years and get exercising!

No matter how many things you use to distract yourself, eventually you will have to do school or write something on the blank page. It will just get turned in two days late...)

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
