5 Ways to Deal with Disappointment

Disappointment. It’s something no one wants to deal yet, yet everyone has to. It’s a nasty little thing that can easily turn to bitter resentment if not taken care of early and in a healthy manner. Of course, everyone deals with disappointment in their own ways, but here are a few ways I’ve found that helps me when struggling with disappointment.

1. Talk to Someone

I don’t care if it’s your mom, your friend, your dog, or your pet rock, talking about what disappointed you is really calming. It allows you to vent in a healthy way, without letting it boil under the surface.

2. Watch Your Favorite Movie

Being able to distract yourself with something helps tremendously. Movies allow you to immerse yourself into a different world with different struggles and will allow you to leave your disappointments behind for a couple hours at least.

3. Cry About It

This might just be me because I cry a lot anyway, but it really does help. It’s your body’s natural emotion-reliever for a reason, take advantage of it.

4. Eat some Ice Cream

No matter what grocery store you shop at, every week at least one ice cream brand is on sale. Need I say more?

5. Don’t Stop Trying

Constantly being bombarded with disappointments can really take its toll on someone. Personally, within the past week, I’ve had two life-changing opportunities fall through on me. It’s been incredibly disappointing, and honestly makes me not want to put myself out there. That’s the worst thing you can do. Just because this door closed, doesn’t mean one won’t open just around the corner.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.
