5 Ways To Deal With Anxiety

Dealing with Anxiety is tough, but possible if you have the right tools. Here are 5 of my favorites to help you through your anxious moments.

1. Coloring

It seems childish, but that's exactly the point! Use bright colors to give off a happy vibe and focus on staying in the lines. Soon enough you will notice the anxiety drift away as you embrace this childhood activity.

2. Listening To Music

Listening to music is something that most people do every day, but sometimes in the midst of an anxious rush we forget how helpful it can be. Whether it's peaceful melodies or lyrics that perfectly describe how you feel, music can help you feel more relaxed.

3. Talking To Someone

Today we often hear about how we should talk about our feelings and be accepting of others' feelings. It can seem annoying or irrelevant when you hear it so much, but it truly can be helpful. Expressing your anxiety, sometimes without feedback, puts it out there and takes some of the pressure off of you as an individual.

4. Exercise

I know... I know... the last thing you want to do when you're stressed out is go to a gym full of overly fit guys making grunting noises, but getting active helps relieve anxiety. It doesn't have to be intense or sweaty, but moving will help you relax and get your mind off whatever is causing you stress. Take a walk or go for a bike ride instead of going to the gym.

5. Cry It Out

Sometimes, you can't do anything to stop negative feelings from arising. They are a natural part of life and when you're dealing with them consistently, it can get pretty hard to keep distracting yourself and pushing them off. Every now and then, it's okay to feel what you need to feel and let it out. You will feel much better after.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
