We live in a world where it seems like everyone is unhappy--depression, anxiety, and mood disorders are at an all-time high, and our generation is more affected than any other. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others--and even worse, to unrealistic and unattainable standards. Let's stop and think for a second--why are we doing this to ourselves? In a way, we are the cause of the misery we put ourselves in. The only person in control of your life is you--so let's see how you can be happier.
Learn To Let Things Go
I very firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, good or bad. So, if something bad happens to you, instead of being upset about it and instantly ruining any chances of having a good day, stop for a second, take a deep breath, process it, and move on. If something isn't going to impact your life in a few weeks, months, or years--move on. If we worry about every single little imperfect thing that happens in our life, we will miss all the little good things that happen around us.
Appreciate Beauty In The World Around You
And no, I don't mean the super photoshopped model on the cover of your favorite magazine. I mean natural beauty. Nature is a beautiful thing. Go for a nature walk, take time to watch the sunset, actually look around you. Appreciate things for what they are, not what they could be.
Say Goodbye To Your Resting Bitch Face
I constantly find myself falling into what we've all learned to fondly call resting bitch face. It has been proven that forcing a smile can actually decrease stress levels--just imagine that for a second. Forcing a smile can reduce stress--imagine what a genuine one can do.
Stop Being So Hard On Yourself
Even if it is the worst way to start your day or if you majorly screw up a job interview, so what? If things don't go the way you wanted maybe it wasn't meant to be. Smile, shake it off, and move on. The worst thing we can do is expect perfection from ourselves. You are perfectly imperfect. Accept your flaws, learn from your mistakes, and be a better person from it.
Learn To Not Have Expectations
The worst thing you can do is build up these amazing expectations of what something will be like and then have them fall short. Don't ruin a good opportunity by overselling it to yourself. Stop preparing yourself for something amazing, just let it happen. Let life take you off guard. Allow yourself to let loose a little and live in the moment.
