1. Texting. An easy way to communicate. Whether it be a quick way to make plans, ask someone out, or just to talk to someone, it’s a lot less nerve wracking than having an actual conversation, and it’s a lot quicker and easier. At the same time, texting and driving simultaneously has become a big problem, causing accidents and deaths. Plus, teenagers are missing out on actually hearing the other person’s voice during a conversation, something that is now seen as “old-fashioned” to most.
2. Snapchat. A quick an easy way to send pictures to any of your friends. Pictures that will disappear after a certain number of seconds. Also, an easy way to show all of your friends at once what you’re doing by updating your “Snapchat story.” What could be bad about that? What about the fact that people are so concerned about taking snapchats of every single thing they do, that they don’t enjoy the moments anymore? The major flaw with snapchat is that people are so occupied with taking pictures of every moment of their lives to post on their stories, or send to their friends, that they’re missing out on life.
3. Google Maps. “In 1 mile, turn right. In ¾ of a mile, make a left on…” What could be bad about a talking map? You program your destination into your phone, and it talks to you the whole way there, giving you step-by-step directions. Don’t get me wrong, I would literally be nowhere without Google Maps considering I’m horrible with directions, but the fact that people have maps talk to them every step of the way, takes away their need to learn any directions. What happens if your phone dies, or you have no service? It’s important to learn how to read a real map and not to just rely on technology all the time because things go wrong all of the time.
4. Online Shopping. With just three clicks, while lying in your bed in your pajamas, at any time of the day, you can buy almost anything you want online and have it delivered. It’s quick and easy, and very tempting. The problem with online shopping is putting credit card and debit card information on the Internet. There are online hackers, and a lot of them. Also, there’s always that option to “Remember This Card.” If your computer gets stolen and your card is “remembered,” that person can buy whatever they want on your computer.
5. Netflix. Hundreds of TV shows and movies literally at your fingertips whenever you want to watch them. You can watch entire series of shows, or your favorite movies at anytime of the day. Amazing right? What I want to know is what ever happened to playing outside, going for a bike ride, or hanging out with friends? All teenagers want to do these days is lie in their beds all day and watch Netflix. It’s our only time to be young and adventurous, and it shouldn’t be wasted cooped up inside staring at a computer.
