5 Ways Superheroes Exist In Real Life

Superheroes are all around us every day.

The inspiration for this article comes from the fact that some guys at work refer to me as Wonder Woman because of one night when I was pushing carts and I was out pushing with some of the guys. So I thought about the fact that media and all of us adore all these superheroes, but aren't there a lot of people around us who are superheroes as well?

1. They use their talents extraordinary well to help those of us around us.

Everybody knows that one person who does one thing extremely well such as music talent, math, or even helping others emotionally. This may not be as cool as the ability to shoot lasers out of our eyes, but some people's talents can be just as beneficial in somebody's life.

2. They are willing to sacrifice their happiness for the well-being of others.

I always think of this as the superheroes who give up time with their significant others and their families to respond to that sudden call of help. Don't we see that a lot in other people's lives too? For example, that medical professional who goes in to perform emergency surgery instead of staying home, getting some sleep, and catching some "Grey's Anatomy" before their next shift or that soldier who leaves his home to go to another country and sacrifice his life for the well-being of his country.

3. They serve without asking for thanks.

How many people do we see that won't help unless there is some sort of benefit in it for them? Superheroes are willing to help those around them simply just to help or improve the happiness of others. Just like the superheroes in the movies may receive thanks, but their main purpose is to help their country or the world.

4. They are willing to take risks.

Now by this, I don't mean go take a jump off the next building or going bungee jumping or anything dangerous. I'm talking about the willingness to go do things that you've never done before and be around people that you've never been around before. To me, one of the biggest risks in life is to change your life and take opportunities that can utterly change your life.

5. They are willing to help and love everybody.

Superheroes are willing to help save everybody around them, they don't care if it is somebody off the street or if it's the richest man in the world. It's hard to put our judgments aside to help people, but some of the people we judge the hardest are just looking for love. Everybody needs love, just imagine if the world decided that blonde people were unworthy of love, wouldn't that be hard for all the blonde people in the world? I admire the people who are willing to give their love so freely to everybody around them.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
