There is a point in school where everyone just hits a slump. This slump normally happens after a break ends. You realize that there are only six more weeks left of school and cannot wait to be out for the summer. School work starts to be lacking as there is no motivation to actually start or finish the assigned work. Going to classes starts to be a drag, since you would rather be outside enjoying the nice weather. Seniors are beyond ready to graduate and move on to better things.
Underclassmen are ready for summer to begin. Summer is on everyone's mind since it is so close. You'll be going to the beach, hanging out with friends, relaxing, getting to sleep in, and having no responsibilities—except for those who have a summer job. Daydreaming of white sandy beaches, laying under the sun getting a tan, and waves hitting the shore begins to happen more and more as the days go on. Summer officially begins on June 20.
Even though summer break is four weeks away, your schoolwork comes first. You are in the final stretch of the year, and if you want to keep your GPA up, you will need to stay focused on the homework, tests, and finals. All of this will be over soon, so here are some things you can do to stay focused for the next few weeks left of school.
1. Get organized
This sounds like a silly idea, since it's the end of the year, but it can really help you achieve your goals. Getting organized will help keep your grades up and you focused, whether you are creating a planner with everything you need or to-do lists to help you know what needs to be done.
2. Get out of bed
To retain what you have either studied or wrote, it is a great idea to have a place to study away from any distractions like your TV. Although it is comfortable to study in bed, it will ultimately lead you astray from your goal and you will end up waking up an hour later with no work done. Go to a desk where you can be more alert, or go to your school's library, where it is quiet and filled with other students who are doing the same thing.
3. Stay off of social media
Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat induce more procrastination. With hundreds of pictures to look at and profiles to stalk, it is easy to get off task and become completely unfocused. Get yourself away from the computer and away from your cell phones if you are serious about getting some work done.
4. Get some exercise
Exercising sounds boring and like it won't help, but if you go with a group of friends, you can make it fun. Sitting around will become uncomfortable and will eventually have you feeling sore. Walking or having a certain routine that you do can get your blood moving and have you feeling refreshed. Your mood in the end will be a bit brighter.
5. Stay hydrated
I know what you're thinking, you should drink coffee for the energy you're going to need to pull off all-nighters, but that will only help give you temporary energy. If you are feeling dehydrated frequently, you will need to drink some water. If you are dehydrated, you may feel some lightheadedness, headaches, fatigue, and the inability to stay focused. Although coffee does not directly cause dehydration, it may be a smarter choice to quench your thirst with water during study sessions to avoid a crash later on.
