5 Ways to Stay Active For the Rest of the Summer

Summer is half way over! Hopefully, you've been able to lounge around on your couch while binge watching Netflix or outside by the pool. If you're like me, you're realizing summer is half way over and you haven't worked towards your ideal "beach bod" at all. It's never too late to start improving your body though, so here a few fun ways to get moving!

1. Pool Party

What better way to get moving then throwing a party with your friends? You can run and jump in and play various pool games. Racing each other to the other side never gets old, no matter what age you are! If you're not into the whole swimming idea, you can DJ and have yourself a dance party. Just be careful that you're not drinking too much while you're swimming!

2. Hiking

Grab a group of your friends and go explore the nearest forest preserve or state park to hike through. Find one with a waterfall so you can cool off before you hike back down! You never know what you'll find along the trails. Talk to a tour guide or a forest ranger to get more details on what type of wildlife to expect or what plants you'll come across! Remember, leaves of three, leave them be!

3. Bike Rides

Whether you hit the streets alone or with a buddy, bike riding is a super fun activity that really gets your heart pumping! Take a ride near sunset and watch the sky turn from blue to pink to orange to black. Remember to wear reflective clothing if you decide to stay out when it's dark! Find a bike path to explore. Ask your friends to go get ice cream with you and bike there instead. Switch it up and ride your bike for a week instead of driving!

4. Pick Up Games

Head over to your local sand court to play a game of volleyball! Or go to the local ball park and get a game of 16 in. softball going. My friends and I are super into playing Red Rover and we get highly competitive. Find a park and play monkey on the wood chips, play tag, or create a new game. The possibilities are endless and it definitely will be something out of the ordinary for you and your friends!

5. Dog Walk

Taking your furry, four legged friend for a walk will make his/her day. There is no greater joy than seeing how excited a dog gets when you ask if they want to go for a walk. Don't have a dog? Ask around! You'll find plenty of pet owners who would be glad to let you walk their dog. You might even make some money (bonus perk!) You'll get some cardio in without even realizing you're exercising! Mainly because your dog will require your full attention because he wants to see the bird over there and also the butterfly thats behind you and there's another dog across the street.

Whatever you decide to do, get moving! Winter will be here soon enough and you wont be able to go outside and enjoy the weather. Binge on Netflix then! For now, go jump in the pool.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
