Now in my sophomore year of college, I officially know what it means to be broke. With sorority dues, going out with friends and basic wants and needs, I constantly find myself with little to nothing in my painfully empty wallet. Here are a few tips and tricks to help those of you, like me, who need to spend a little less and save a little more.
1.Go out to eat less.
Going out to eat is a great way to catch up with friends you haven’t seen in a while and it saves you from the awkward who’s-house-should-we-go-over-to-now conversation, but think of all the money you’d save if you decided to skip the sushi! Try going out for coffee instead of choosing the full meal.
2.Put every other paycheck in your savings account.
Getting paid rocks but saving up rocks even more! Having extra money tucked away for future use will definitely be beneficial in the long-run and you won’t have to worry about being in debt!
3.Look for coupons.
I know, I know, you’re not a middle-aged mother looking to start a stockpile of 50 cent deodorants in your garage but, I promise you, coupons really are the best! There’s pretty much a coupon for every item if you look hard enough and just think of all the money you’ll save!
4.Keep track of what you’re spending.
Every time you make a purchase, write it down or save the receipt. This way, you will always know how much money you have to spend.
5.Try to only buy the essentials.
This one can be hard at times but look at it this way: the less you treat yourself, the more you’ll enjoy it when you actually do!
