Falling asleep can be difficult, especially when you consider conditions like insomnia, depression, anxiety, and trauma. A cure-all isn't always possible, but here are a few little things that can help you relax, fall asleep, and stay asleep.
1. Whatever you do, make it a routine
Regardless of what your routine actually consists of, try and make it consistent. This includes trying to go to sleep and waking up at the same time every day.
2. Take melatonin
Melatonin is a naturally-occurring hormone that is triggered by darkness. You can take it in pill form to help you fall asleep once the lights are off.
3. Drink chamomile tea
While you're at it, wash that down with some chamomile tea! Chamomile has been used for centuries for it's calming properties.
4. Avoid technology an hour before bed
It helps to avoid the blue light given off by smartphones, computers, and television screens before you go to sleep. If nothing else, turn off your notifications so you aren't distracted by social media.
5. Meditate or do yoga
Yoga and meditation can be great tools for mental and physical relaxation, so long as you don't do yoga that gets your heart-rate up.
