Everyone has bad days. Maybe you've just gotten a wretched hair cut and you know you'll have to sport that awful bowl cut for at least a month before it grows out. Possibly you lost your wallet, or keys, or cell phone and searched frantically with no results. Whatever the case may be, it is super easy to turn turn your frown upside down. Encouraging words are not used as often as they should be. We should make it our job to be nicer to people. After all, t doesn't cost anything to be kind.
1. Say "I love you."
Obviously you aren't going to say "I love you" to a bunch of random strangers, but reminding people you love them is important. We are never promised another day and we should stop taking every moment for granted. So call up your grandma who can barely hear you and scream "I LOVE YOU" as many times as she needs you to repeat it. Shoot a text message to your sibling(s) to let them know you still adore them, even if they pranked you in middle school.
2. Give a small gift.
Candy bars, teddy bears, cards, food, or thoughtful goodies are all sweet ways to make someone's day. My mother always brings small presents home for my brothers and I. It shows that we are always on her mind. Even a cup of coffee for a stranger is a great way to make a small difference.
3. Open a door.
This is a classic way to do something kind. Sure, it might be taken for granted but at least you know that you did something nice for them.
4. Ask someone about themselves.
People love to talk about themselves! Showing interest in someone's day, hobbies, or life reminds them that they are important. Everyone appreciates being cared about.
5. Write a little note.
Send your mom a card to let her know you love her and her special recipe for pound cake. Leave a note for your significant other telling them how amazing they looked the day before. Tell your little sister thank you for letting you borrow her flatiron.
It doesn't take much to make someone feel good about themselves. Make an effort to be the reason somebody is smiling today.
