Most of our generation has grown up with idea that all driving is getting into the car and putting it in drive. This was not the case in the past, being able to drive a standard car and change gears while driving was what people knew. There is still a group of cars out there with stick inside them though you hear less people saying they drive standard. Here are 5 reasons why learning to drive standard is hard but in the end very rewarding and useful.
1. There are three pedals- Clutch, break, gas which at first can be confusing figuring out where your foot belongs
2.Stalling – it is embarrassing, you also get worried others will get upset but in the end everyone stalls
3. Hills. Enough said.
4. Switching gears- you could miss the right gear and hear a scratching sound or you can forget to put it into neutral at a stop sign or stop sign
5. Worrying about crashing -especially if someone if letting you use his or her car to learn, you are very cautious about speed and not wanting to cause damage
Once someone learns to drive standard all of these problems go away and it becomes natural. We are all so focused on where we need to get to we forget what is really going on under our hood. Learning stick will make you appreciate driving more and keep you more focused on the road, also makes us a better driver.
