At a concert Friday night, Kanye West made the startling confession to his fans that he did not vote in this election but if he did, he would have voted for Donald Trump. The following night's concert, he doubled down on that exclaiming how he admire how Trump ran his campaign, his political incorrectness, along with several other rants against Beyonce and how African-Americans should stop focusing on racism. Kanye showed up to that concert several hours late, performed three songs, began his 17 minute rant, and then left at the mic drop, causing many fans to demand refunds. This stunned a lot of Kanye's biggest fans but when comparing him to Trump, it would make sense that he would admire Trump as they share many striking similarities.
1. They both make controversial statements
Kanye and Trump are known to have gone off the rails on numerous issues. One of Kanye's first controversies was when he appeared in a concert to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims where he exclaimed that "[President] George Bush doesn't care about black people" which left his co-host Mike Meyers and many others visibly shocked he just said that. Donald Trump said many things controversial within this election year from his proposed wall that Mexico will pay for, a proposed ban on Muslims, and his earliest one where he demanded President Obama show his birth certificate to prove he was an American citizen. They both also dabble in conspiracy theories with Trump claiming that global warming was a man made hoax and Kanye's comments that the government created AIDS to disrupt black communities.
2. They use Twitter as their platform
Most of their controversial statements were made on their Twitter accounts which they both use profusely. Rants, twitter wars, retaliations, outrageous claims, and self high fives; Twitter is their shared domain.
3. They both went in huge debt
It was discovered that Trump went in $900 million in debt when running his casinos and eventually declared bankruptcy. Casinos were a new business venture for Trump at the time and had trouble navigating the industry. Meanwhile, Kanye went in $53 million in debt after pursuing his clothing line which he admitted didn't have the proper knowledge at the start to navigate as well.
4. They both have huge egos and hate criticism
This is a well known fact that both men have huge self-praise and self-confidence. From Trump's claims that he has the highest IQ and Kanye's claims that he's a genius and a God. So when anyone tried to challenge their perceived perfection, they go off in a ballistic rant such as Trump's case with Rosie O'Donnell and Ted Cruz and Kanye's case with Jimmy Kimmel. They also hate it when they are not recognized for their perceived brilliance in awards shows as Trump ranted how the Emmy's were rigged since "The Apprentice" was not awarded and Kanye's rant how he lost a Grammy for Best New Artist and not honoring the true artistry of music by performers like Beyonce.
5. They both made announcements to run for President
Trump launched his political career by announcing he would run for President. We all had a good laugh but now he actually will become President of the United States. Kanye made a similar announcement albeit he was high at the time so TBA if he was really serious. But hey, Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar, the Cubs won the World Series, Donald Trump won the Presidency; we just elected a ego maniac that takes himself too seriously and demands that other people should treat him as a genius, why not another? Anything can happen.
