We all have those days where we simply feel below our best. Whether it's because you didn't do well on an exam, you're having problems with family, or you just don't feel happy, experiencing down days is a normal part of being human. Luckily, there are many ways to easily boost your mood. Here are 5 simple tricks to get you out of the dumps.

1. Try Aromatherapy

Throw on a sweet smelling vanilla lotion, spray a citrus room spray throughout your house, sniff a bottle of lavender oil. Whatever your favorite scent is, you can immerse yourself in that smell and instantly boost your mood.

2. Go Out and Move

Try going for a brisk walk or a jog. Do a few dozen jumping jacks or push-ups. Getting your blood pumping and heart rate up can really help to clear your head. If you have time, try to do a full workout. You will really feel a difference.

3. Get Romantic

If you have a significant other, having romantic time with that person will boost your mood. Whether that means cuddling up on the couch and watching Netflix or going all out, those feel-good hormones will be released in your brain. If you don't have a significant other, you can still lift your mood by hugging a friend.

4. Play a Mood-Boosting Playlist

Listening to just 20 minutes of mood-boosting songs will really have an effect on your mood. Pandora and Spotify both have pre-made mood boosting playlists that you can listen to now. You can also make a playlist of your favorite happy songs. Put on your headphones and jam along.

5. Smile

Did you know that the act of smiling alone can lift your mood? It may sound silly, but try smiling at nothing. Hold your smile for 10 or 15 seconds. You will feel your mood get better instantly.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
