So my grandmother may just be an awesome exception, but she's always been a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. When my parents' worked in the mornings she'd take me to school, and on the weekends she'd drive me to church. She inspired me to be my best person, be polite to everyone, and keep persisting at my goals. Here are a few reasons why I consider my grandmother to also be one of my best friends.
1. Out of all of your relatives, you've spent the most time with her
She still takes you along for shopping, errands, or just grabbing coffee at a friend's house. You get to catch up on what everyone in the neighborhood is doing when you come home from college because of course, she knows everyone in the neighborhood.
2. You can relate to Ross Smith
Well, on a certain level at least. Ross Smith was a Vine celebrity famous for his videos featuring his grandmother. While I wouldn't say many of the things he said to his grandmother, I do feel like my grandmother would easily post pictures on Instagram of us trying out a new Snapchat filter or attempting a music video together.
3.You trust her judgment on people you date
You trust it because she's always been scarily right about people. "Don't hang around that girl she's trouble," or "They don't want what's best for you." All rang true later in life. However, if I take you to my grandmother's house you should be flattered. If you pass that test you're in it for the long haul, and while everyone is welcome not everyone deserves grandma's food. That's one less plate I get to take back.
4. You teach her how to use technology so she can stay in touch
She may not know exactly what a "meme" is, but when she sees something that makes her laugh or think of you, she can tag you in it. She is also starting to pick up on stuff you didn't teach her like messenger, and that's basically texting so score for grandma!
5. You ask (and trust) her opinion on anything
"Is this outfit too bland?"
"How do I build credit?"
"Do you vote? Where do I vote? How do register?"
These are all actual questions that I have asked my grandmother, and she's happily answered them all. I've been through everything with my grandmother. My first vacation, mornings going to school, beauty pageants, dance recitals, weekends at her house, and the list continues. My very young, and beautiful grandmother means the world to me, and I couldn't ask for anyone better.
