We all know how stressful finals season is at the University of Florida and at universities across the globe. Right after the bliss of Thanksgiving Break, we are wrought with anxiety over upcoming finals. That first week back is spent running around the Bookstore buying Smokin Notes and making sure we have our TutoringZone and StudyEdge packets. The stress levels reach a maximum high at the end of the semester. Here are a few ways to destress during finals week this year.
1. Take constant 'mini' breaks
Breaks are extremely important, especially when you are studying for multiple finals at a time. We all know we are never lucky enough to get all of our finals spread out to make our lives easier. Study for 20 minutes and then take a 5 minute break to read a book or watch some TV or simply take a power nap.
2. Exercise
I know we all think we do not have the time for even a quick 15 minute run, but exercise is super important. After an 8-10 hour day of studying, I always unwind at the gym for an hour or so. It is very helpful to destress by letting out that anxiety you built up all day at the gym.
3. Get some fresh air
After a long day of studying, go for a walk. Take a run around the block or do some yoga outside. Hang out on a hammock by Library West or sit on a bench with some friends just to have a laugh. You can even read a book or watch a movie on a blanket in the grass at Plaza of the Americas.
4. Spend some time doing something fun
Remember to make the time for what is most important in life: family and friends. Take the time to call them even if it is only 5 minutes because I know how much I tend to disappear during finals week. Make sure to call your mom just to say "Hey, by the way, I am still alive." You can also bake brownies with friends, go out to dinner or just hang out at Starbucks while you study.
5. Remember to breathe
Breathing is super important, especially in these upcoming weeks where our stress and anxiety levels are at all time highs. It is important to remember to take a breath when it gets to much and try to relax for a little while before we get back to studying.
