5 Ways To Deal With Post-Spring Break

I know, I know. It's all over now: the music, the sand in your hair, and the warm tan that once glowed all over is beginning to fade with time. It was beautiful while it lasted--we were beautiful while it lasted. But the leering shadows of school, work, and the professional world are slowly dragging us all back to a world of responsibility. Although sometimes it's not pretty transitioning back from Spring Break. How do I do it? Well here are five ways to help you move back without a hitch.

1. Relish the last weekend.

Go out with friends to a concert, see a movie, try a new restaurant, play an epic board game, go to a special place (a park, beach, trail, etc.), do some heavy exercise or have a fantastical night out on the hometown. Really milk the fun out of your last few minutes of break, through sweat, laughs, heartbeats or smiles — and push off the encroaching thoughts about the upcoming work week the best way you can.

2. Clean the house or move furniture around.

Variety is the spice of life, but that doesn’t mean you need to take drastic changes. Perhaps the safest change you could make to put some pep in your step post-vacation would be to change your living conditions. While cleaning your room might not sound like a super-fun activity, but it will make all the difference. LifeHack.org says that cleaning your room will re-brighten the energy of everything — which will, in turn, give you positive energy to pursue the upcoming days. If cleaning sounds too hard, move some furniture around. Switch beds with your roommate, maybe? Move desks around. Get a new perspective on your room — get a new, positive perspective on this April!

3. Start a new show.

During college, not everybody can afford cable television. But Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu, On Demand, YouTube and numerous other streaming services give us thousands of shows to watch instantly on our computers and smartphones. Now that post-spring break prevents endless binging, try and set up a schedule for a new show. Deliberate with friends to pick out a new series for a certain day of the week when everybody’s free. Now you’ll have something extra to look forward to during your work-week.

4. Register for a fun new class.

Whether you’re a senior or not, classes never will go away. Next semester always comes, and even post-graduation, there are classes you could take for fun at the gym, seminary, community center and so on. Take something interesting or off the wall, like a cycling class, a fantasy-novel book club or a seminar on board games! Spring break is a time for you to revel in who you are now, but coming back allows you to plan an exciting future!

5. Work hard.

Nothing makes the day sweeter — or makes the day go by quicker — than hard work. While nothing about it is glamorous, it’s best to start off Monday morning with a strong stride. Get on top of your pile of work, and manage your time properly so that nothing overtakes you. The worst way to handle post-spring break misery is to give in to despair. Remember your youthful time back at home and transfer that energy back into college, your job, your home and all other aspects of your life. You’ll thank yourself later.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
