From her humble beginnings growing up in the Bronx, Cardi recalls struggling for money and believing in a dream for more in her life. She began working as a stripper and eventually gathered a following on social media thanks to comedic rants and skits uploaded to Instagram.
Instead of allowing herself to become just another funny face or influencer on social media, she used her following to open the door for her to pursue her passion for music. This vision and dream eventually landed her a role on the reality show "Love and Hip Hop" and the release of her Billboard Top 100 single "Bodak Yellow" propelling the beginning of her superstar career.
Despite Being and Evolving Artist, Cardi Has Proudly Stayed True To Herself.

It seems that when some people rise to stardom later in life, they are often criticized by the public and their fans for changing or succumbing to the Hollywood machine. But, in true Cardi-style she has shown that she hasn't let her fame and success change who she truly is.
Regardless of her fame and success, she's been known to keep it real by always being open about the ups and downs of her life, proving that she still has problems just like everyone else.
Unlike many other celebrities, she's often even caught by fans and paparazzi doing normal daily activities, hanging out with family, running her own errands, doing her own shopping and is often praised for balancing work and while still making being a mother to her baby girl Kulture, a priority.
Cardi Has Used Fashion As A Tool To Showcase Not Only Beauty and Femininity But Power And Determination To Overcome Adversity In Many Situations

Fashion has forever been known as a tool to showcase power and success, just as it has also been known to be somewhat limiting, being gender-specific, helping people to blend in, and showcase one specific sexualized stereotype for females. In Cardi's case, she has chosen to play into powerful, feminine and masculine roles that fashion has allowed her proving she is a girl that 'can do both.'
Her most recent legal battle, (added to a list of her other "scandals") caught both positive and negative public attention for her fashion choices while appearing in court. But in classic Cardi style, she addressed her negative comments with humor head-on and brought attention to how she wasn't just using the courtroom as a catwalk but was using her fashion choices to feel powerful and strong in the courtroom.
She Has Refused To Allow Anyone To Criticize Or Victimize Her

From the very beginning, Cardi has acknowledged her struggles, her vices and faced adversity head-on making sure to speak up for herself and keep the record straight when rumors spread or people question her life or her music.
In facing these things head-on and pushing past the fear of judgement, people's own opinions directed towards her and the female expectation, she has inspired other women to prove people wrong by continuing to rise above all the noise and to never be afraid to own their past because they are better for it today.
Her attitude towards this topic, her acknowledgement of her past and its critics, has also benefitted by even bringing attention to how easily society and especially many men, can use stereotyping and the burden of blaming to not only victimize but stunt the growth of women throughout history and modern-day.
As A Woman of Color Cardi Has Refused To Allow Her Career To Be Kept In A Box Because of Her Ethnicity And Has Inspired Other WOC To Do The Same.

From the very beginning of her career and presence online Cardi has been open and proud of her culture and ethnicity. In the process, she has addressed stereotyping throughout her career and times when people tried to keep her in a box by labeling her ethnicity incorrectly or even expecting her only talents and career path to be in hip-hop because she was a woman of color. But again proudly exceeding expectation, she is seen as not only a rapper but a singer, personality, comedian, fashion icon, influencer and an actress with a starring role to be seen in the upcoming movie Hustlers.
Thanks to Cardi and her openness about her life and her career as a working mother she is inspiring and changing the game for not only Adult Women of Color but young WOC and women across many cultures and ethnicities to change their perception, support each other, filter through all the rubbish and remember that the only thing standing in your way is yourself.
