It's about this time of the year that I start to fall into a movie slump.
But this year, I've rounded up some of the movies I'm most looking forward to in order to avoid the dreaded movie drought (which probably only exists in my head). I'll be looking at the big hits, from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and more, to see when we can expect some fantastic movie magic coming our way.
1. "Beauty And The Beast" (March 17th).
Saying that I'm excited for this film is a massive understatement. I've watched all the trailers, multiple times, with squeals of anticipation and wonder. Not only is the original "Beauty and the Beast" (circa 1991) one of my all-time favorite Disney princess movies, but EMMA FREAKING WATSON AS BELLE?!
I'm so ready to relive all the wonder that the original story provides, along with a new live-action style, character adaptations, and what looks to be amazing costumes and set designs.
2. "Wonder Woman" (June 2nd).
FINALLY! Finally, ladies and gentlemen, we will have a solo female superhero movie! The wait has been far too long. In June, DC will be bringing us "Wonder Woman," which, if you've seen the trailer, looks completely awesome. The film is set during WW1, where a pilot (AKA Chris Pine) convinces Princess Diana (AKA Wonder Woman) to leave her sheltered island of warrior women and join the fight end the warof all wars.
I have such high hopes for this movie, considering it will be the first superhero movie to feature a women as the super-protagonist.
3. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (July 7th).
After the cameo of young Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War" (which, arguably, was the best part of the movie, just saying), fans are excited to see a new chapter in this superhero's film career. And I have to say, I'm pretty excited for this new installment, as well. Peter Parker (as played by Tom Holland) seems to have taken the direction of a truly young Peter, trying to navigate the difficulties of being superhuman with being a super dork. I'm looking forward to seeing a movie that really captures the teenage spirit with humor and lightheartedness (along with the whole saving the world thing, of course).
4. "Coco" (November 24th).
Try to contain your enthusiasm: Pixar is releasing a new animated movie. Yep. You heard me. While there will be a "Cars 3," Pixar will also be coming out with a brand new film. Last year, we got to witness a Dory-centric sequal in "Finding Dory," but this year, Pixar's bringing us "Coco." While there's not a whole lot of information out yet on this newcomer, the plot suggests that the film follows a young boy living in Mexico, with an incredible passion for music. And from the look of the art, we can surely expect more Pixar magic.
5. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (December 15th).
And finally, we can all get some more Rey in our lives. After the huge success of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the next installment is already causing quite a stir.
As expected, the film is set to follow the events of the previous film, as Rey continues to develop her powers, along with the help of Luke Skywalker and Finn.
Luckily for all of us, it looks like there's going to be some exceptionally great films coming to our local theaters. Which one are you most excited about?
