Drooling over dusky Jon Snow or fanboying over Khaleesi, falling for ginger-head Archie or the latest; awestruck by the perfect jawline of Bodyguard. At one point of time we have all admired the protagonists of some or the other fictional series we unapologetically binged.
While it sounds nerdy, I must accept that on close consideration, I found that some supporting roles also sketched amazing characters which need to be lauded. So, here's a shutout to some of the most underrated fictional characters who had a lot to teach us and sometimes were better that even the show's protagonists in fact!
1. Ser Davos: Game of Thrones
Among all other shades of emotions on the vibrant canvas of Game Of Thrones, the shade of loyalty he painted with selfless service to Stannis Baratheon is just impeccable. Unabashed of the consequences, he always advised Stannis what would be in his stride.
It was always heart-wrenching to watch his bond with princess Shireen.
True gem of a man, he never left your king's side even if it meant sacrificing your own son at the war of Blackwater.
Davos proved to us that a man who has got his hands dirty due to circumstances can still have a clean heart.
2. Mike : Friends
Dear Mike,Thank you for being Mr. Crap Bag to the crazy whimsical Miss Consuela Bananahammock. Despite of all your riches, you fondly cherished the innocence of Phoebe Buffay.
Be it a crazy tennis matches with Monica or an awkward conversation with Ross, you did whatever it took to be by Phoebe's side.
The decisions of this bewildering beauty were as twisted as they could get; right from whom to marry, to how to get married- with or without splurging the money you both eventually decided to donate.
I'm glad she chose you- You who stood by her in the pressing times of a dead frozen wedding in the middle of the street, you who promised that day to eventually be with her in all the weirdly wonderful times to come.
3. Tony: 13 Reasons Why
Although Clay always called him the unhelpful Yoda, deep down he knew that no matter what went, Tony would always have his back. And maybe even Hannah felt the same, which is why she trusted only Tony with the tapes.
Thank you for proving that friendship is far beyond regular hangouts and FML wows in hip coffee shops.
He always strived to keep all his friends astray of misfortune, although rarely being appreciated for it.
I'm glad he was not like the more often third wheel of a love triangle.
He showed us that there are potentially strong and many more shades to a supporting actor -who, for a change, can be actually the support system to the protagonist.
With that old school persona with the eyes to kill, you surely stole many hearts!
4. Alice Cooper : Riverdale
Honestly, initially I detested Alice for the warden that she was to Betty. Although, as the mysteries unfolded I kinda started seeing the bitter pain behind all her acerbic comments.
The sass that Alice brings to the room and the obnoxious bitch that she can be at times -audaciously speaking her mind; is something not everyone can pull off.
It's annoying to have someone constantly meandering in everyone's personal business, yet what I truly appreciate is how fiercely she fights back.
Be it for her position as co-editor at Register or to protect Polly and her child, or to finally decide to see her long lost son.
There is no right set of words to describe how perfectly Alice balances the caring mother and a badass southside serpent in that single dainty body!
5. Molly Hooper: Sherlock
The backbone to all the rendezvous of this mastermind, Molly has played a significant role in making the Detective.
Molly Hooper, an introvert registrar in a city morgue, she is in fact, the alter ego of Sherlock. He may hide behind his suave detective hat while Molly, behind that shy lab coat.
Funny how the world always ships Johnlock and Sherlock himself believes that it is Irene who stirred his world when. In fact, when the time came, he counted on Molly and not even his resourceful elder brother for his final act.
Kudos to Molly Hooper for simply being her awesome self!
