Working in retail is a great job for those who love people watching. When you work in retail you come across an array of different people, but these 5 basic traits seem to be reoccurring patterns in all shoppers.
1. The Grabber
GiphyIt's like there's a magnetic pull between these shoppers' hands and items in the store. Anything from the clothing on the top shelf to the small items on the way to checkout, their hands are touching it. These shoppers are sales associates' worst nightmares, especially when they pull the items off the shelves, throw it back on top, and leave the store without purchasing anything. Like alright Tasmanian devil, look don't touch.
2. The Questioner
Giphy"Do you have this in other sizes?" "When will you be getting new items?" "How much is this?" "How long do your deals last?" "Is there a coupon for this?" It's like a four-year-old who can't stop asking questions out of curiosity, except these shoppers are just high maintenance.
3. The Tryer
GiphyThey come to the dressing room way over the maximum number of items that can be allowed in at one time, and then get upset when the sales associate tells them they can't take everything in with them. This doesn't stop them from trying everything on knowing that they won't be purchasing everything they're trying on, but really only 2 items or nothing. And then they leave everything in the dressing room on the floor, thrown on the bench, or tangled up; your sales associates thank you for that one.
4. The Pacer
GiphySpends hours in the store pacing from one end to the other debating in their mind what items to get. They're the reason for indents in the floor and why stores don't close on time. But sales associates can always count on them to make a big sale because they're so indecisive they typically buy more than what they planned to.
5. The Follower
GiphyTypically are there with others just as something to do. They really didn't come to buy anything, but sometimes temptation speaks in money. Other times they fight the urge and leave empty handed and annoyed that their friend spent that much time in the store.
