When I decided to write this article I wanted to know how many people we meet in our lives. A quick google search told me it's about 8,000. That seems like a lot but to be honest I didn't look too hard to disprove it. Whatever the real numbers are, it's clear that we meet a lot of people. I'm hopelessly optimistic and I almost always see the best in people but sometimes that gets me into trouble. But I'm here to make mistakes so I can prevent you from making them. Here are 5 people that I'd advise you to steer clear of.
1) The user.
I'm taking to Intro to Logic this semester and I usually have no idea what's going on. But last class the professor talked about a theory that struck a cord with me. I don't remember if it was Confucius or Aristotle or some random fortune cookie writer but someone pointed out that we cannot treat other people like tools. If there's someone in your life that is constantly asking you for favors but never asking how your day went, it might be time to distance yourself.
2) The One Who Always Blames you.
Have you ever had a significant other or a best friend that you constantly fight with? Fighting is fine. Most people even consider it a healthy part of relationships. If you have 100 fights and 99 of them are started by the other person, it might be time to walk away.
3) The One Who Can't Take a Hint.
You don't have to be friends with people who make you uncomfortable. You can tell that guy in your classes that follows you around to leave you alone. You can pick and choose who you surround yourself with. Trust your gut and avoid the people that make you a little uneasy.
4) The One Who Never Claps For You.
Some people just don't know how to support others. Your friend group should be full of cheerleaders. You should be a cheerleader. I'm not saying to bake each other a cake for every minor accomplishment, but also who doesn't love cake?
5) The Jealous One
We always want what we can't have, but do you have a friend who always wants what YOU have? The green eyed monster can often hide in our friend groups. A little competition can be healthy but what's the fun in having a pal that constantly tries to steal your thunder?
