The 5 Types of College Naps As Told By Friends

I think you all will agree when I say that sleep is the best thing known to man. To college students especially, it is like candy to a child. Mid-semester, I find myself taking a nap whenever I have a free hour in between classes. I even schedule my day with friends around my naps. And when I am not napping, I have an unhealthy amount of caffeine running through my veins to get me through the day. Here are some of my favorite types of naps that always helps me to get through the semester.

1. The Cat Nap

This is the quick 20-minute nap that you take in between classes. It is much needed after the two-hour labs and lectures. You tend to find yourself on the common room floor, the couch or if you're lucky, curled up in your bed. It is so necessary to get through the day, only if you pair it with a cup of caffeine afterwards.

2. The Communal Nap

This nap can be with friends, family, and even pets. In college, it's with your roommates. You all make an executive decision that a nap would be beneficial for everyone's sake, pile into one bed and set the same wake-up time. Occasionally, you might hit the snooze button a few more times than you should and mumble "5 minutes" to your friends.

3. The Middle of Class Nap

No one likes to do it. But when the time comes, there is nothing you can do to stop the urge to close those heavy eyes. You purposefully sit in the back because you know it is going to be one of those days. Of course, before you enjoy that hour nap, you ask your friend next to you if you could copy the notes after class.

4. The Procrastination Nap

This is the nap that comes in handy when you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed. The only thing that will make you feel better about how much work you have to get done is taking a nap. You should be doing that 10 page essay but who could pass up an hour nap.

5. The Power Nap

This one can also be called the "rally" nap. This is the most important nap you could take on a Friday or Saturday night. It is rather quick, only being a half an hour long at the most. They get you energized and ready for a long night with friends!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
