A lot of us grew up watching "Friends" and finding our nerdy selves in Monica, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, and Phoebe. Here's five lessons we learned from the show:
1. Treat friends (and family) well.
Because friends and family are the most important things in our lives.
2. Being weird is a good thing.
In high school, we were probably (and continuously) tortured by our friends for being that person who had a weird habit (for example, mine was always eating excessively spicy food). But now, we’re in college, and the stigma associated with weirdness has completely disappeared. Why? Because the person next to you is probably even odder than you are, and that’s what makes college interesting.
3. We shouldn't scrutinize everything we do.
Monica is the character most representative of a high-strung perfectionist who tries to control everything she does. She reminds us that although we have to keep the important things in mind, we need to learn to take a breather and take things slow.
4. It’s okay to make mistakes.
This is probably a trite statement you’ve heard a million times, but there’s a reason for that: it’s completely true. If Ross can bounce back from his three failed marriages and ended up with Rachel—his long-time sweetheart—then you can survive your small (or monumental) college missteps.
5. Be daring.
Here, Joey is the best example of why you should be daring. He’s absolutely clueless when it comes to acting, yet he wings every audition and is able to score a starring role on "Days of Our Lives." Joey’s character teaches us that sometimes, good things come to us when we just go with the flow.
