The holidays are here, which means some great quality family time. I love my family to death, but there are some things that I don't want to think about when I'm stuffing my face full of delicious food. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, so here's a short list of topics to avoid talking about.
1. Don't ask me about school.
Don't ask me how school is going, because it's school and I'm dying on the inside. With the semester coming to an end, I'm a bundle of stress. I have tests and projects and papers to write, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking about dropping out to become a stripper. This is my vacation. Don't make me spend it thinking about school.
2. Don't ask me what I'm doing when I graduate.
I've been spending the last four years trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my life once I graduate, and I still have no idea. I don't want to be reminded that I'm running out of time to get my life together. I just want to eat some turkey and stuffing and not think about it.
3. Don't ask me about work.
Work is work. It's the same thing everyday I'm there. Nothing changes. Again, I'm on break and I don't want to think about work.
4. I'm still single.
No, I don't have a beloved boyfriend that I'm hiding from the family. I'm single as can be, and would appreciate it if you didn't remind me of that.
5. Let's avoid any and all talk about politics.
With the recent election, politics are bound to come up in conversation. Let's save the family drama and not talk about it. I know we have different beliefs, but I love you all and would like to keep it that way.
Instead of asking me about any of these things, ask me about my dog. I'd love to show you picture after picture of her. Instead of talking to me about things that I don't want to think about, hand me a glass of wine. I don't want any drama or stress. I just want to enjoy my holidays with the people that I love.
