If you're like me you hate the winter. Its bitter cold and pitch black nights that start at 5:00 p.m. have you feeling gloomy and unmotivated. Though I have never seen an expert I have diagnosed myself with having S.A.D. (Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder) because of my dramatic mood change during the winter season. So, I have come up with a few tips on how to get over the winter blues.
1. Think positively.
This is just a great motto to live by during all seasons but if you want to get over your winter blues then thinking positively is the first step. This means that instead of thinking of all the bad things about winter like the cold, the icy roads, and the dark days and barren trees, think about a warm fire to come home too, the peaceful sight of a fresh snowfall, hot cocoa, and sledding with friends. Creating happy mental images of yourself during winter will help you be happier during this season.
2. Winter is a season.
Like all seasons in our lives, winter will come and go with the rest of them. It won't last forever so don't fret if you are getting anxious over the bitter cold. Before you know it that warm weather will be right around the corner.
3. Snow Days!
One of the great things about winter is the snow that comes with it. Some people actually like to play in that snow but the reason snow is my friend is because I get a break from school or work because of it!
4. Exercise.
This is another thing you might consider doing all year. Exercise has been proven to be a great outlet for emotions and stress in many people. If you are feeling down because of the cold then hit your local gym and run it off. You might end up feeling more motivated during the season because of it.
5. Meditation.
This is something I highly recommend for anyone who is feeling a lack of focus or fulfillment. Meditating whether in a class or just by yourself can dramatically affect your work habits and over all happiness. If you really want to kick the winter blues than find a quiet moment during your day to meditate.
So this winter get out in the cold with a positive mind. Stay healthy and happy during this bitter season, spring will be here before you know it!
